Job Description

Department: Senior Leadership Team

Direct Reporting Line: Principal / Vice Principal

Person Specification:

Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Education related to the subject or a Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field along with a valid teaching license, or a Diploma in teaching qualification. A strong passion for teaching and learning Arabic and Islamic studies is essential.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience or at least 1 year in a Senior Leadership capacity, overseeing whole school initiatives.

Knowledge of inspection, accreditation, and evaluation standards, including CIS, NEASC, IB, BSO, DSIB, and/or ADEK.


Proven recent exceptional teaching performance, capable of demonstrating best practices.


Excellent communication skills in both Arabic and English, both written and spoken.


A collaborative team player who actively engages with all stakeholders.


A flexible leader skilled in managing change, promoting growth, and establishing high standards in a supportive and unified atmosphere.

Primary Job Purpose:

The Arabic and Islamic Coordinator is responsible for monitoring student progress, achievement, and curriculum execution, collaborating closely with the SLT for Arabic and Islamic studies. This role also entails supporting teachers in delivering outstanding instruction to achieve significant learning outcomes, while working with the SLT and departmental colleagues to assess the effectiveness of school action plans.

Key Relationships: Staff from Taaleem Central Office, Charter School Team, Schools’ Senior Leadership Teams (Principal, Heads of School, Curriculum Coordinators), Heads of Department, and Arabic and Islamic teachers and learning assistants.

Positioning of Role:

This role is directly accountable to the Principal and is part of the School's Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

Key Responsibilities:

Work with schools to formulate cohesive group policies and procedures.


Direct the strategic enhancement of Arabic and Islamic education within the school.


Advise the SLT on budgetary priorities.


Collaborate with and oversee Arabic and Islamic teachers and learning assistants.


Create and implement a professional development program to assist teachers and learning assistants in delivering exceptional educational experiences.


Stay updated on best practices, emerging research, and critically evaluate these advancements for their potential to improve student achievement and skills.


Aid in developing and applying key school systems.


Establish partnerships with other schools and experts to enhance the Arabic and Islamic curriculum throughout the school.


Encourage parental involvement in their children’s language and Islamic development.


Provide constructive, data-informed feedback to teachers and support them during the appraisal process.


Actively engage in SLT duties and responsibilities.


Lead the design of an engaging and inspiring curriculum for Arabic and Islamic studies.


Oversee Arabic and Islamic lesson plans and unit planners, ensuring they promote students’ independent learning skills such as critical thinking, inquiry, and investigation.


Develop and evaluate assessment systems across the school.


Train teachers to effectively leverage formative and summative assessment data to guide students’ learning journeys.


Support the establishment of rigorous assessment systems and moderate the grading of internal assessments.


Assist with the recruitment and onboarding of new faculty within the department.


Prepare departmental budgets and orders for supplies, books, and equipment, while tracking the status of these orders.


Compile end-of-year departmental reports and action plans.


Stay informed about research and advancements in educational best practices to help Arabic teachers and assistants enhance their ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including those with learning disabilities.


Aid in organizing professional development for department members.


Collaborate with other leaders to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of the curriculum, school-wide language policies, and curriculum development.


Organize and/or provide coverage during the absence of department members.


Plan department extracurricular activities, events, and assemblies.


Assist in placing students in suitable courses, including administering and grading placement tests when necessary.


Engage in troubleshooting and problem-solving as required.


Provide translation services as needed (letters to parents for the Parents Relation Office, various documents for Facility Management, Arab parents' meetings with teachers).


Remain knowledgeable about ADEK and MOE regulations, consistently reporting and responding to new developments and policies to the SLT.


Review student reports, ensuring comments and feedback are provided in both Arabic and English.


Lead and coordinate Arabic and Islamic workshops for parents as required.


Participate in and lead Arabic and Islamic committees as appropriate.


Perform other duties as reasonably requested by management that align with the role.


OSH Roles and Responsibilities include:


Report OSH concerns to the direct Supervisor or OSH department.


Supervise pupils effectively and understand procedures related to fire, first aid, and other emergencies, implementing them when necessary.


Adhere to OSH procedures relevant to their work area.


Provide clear oral and written health and safety instructions and warnings to students as required.


Ensure the use of personal protective equipment and safety guards where needed.


Make recommendations to their Heads of Department/School Principal regarding OSH equipment and necessary improvements to facilities, tools, equipment, or machinery.


Ensure personal equipment (electrical or mechanical) is not brought into the school without prior authorization.


Regularly inspect classrooms for potential hazards and report findings to the Facilities Manager.


Report all accidents, defects, and dangerous occurrences to their Head of Department immediately.


Remain vigilant in the work area, identifying and reporting imminent dangers/hazards/concerns regarding the environment, health, and safety.

Compensation
