Ataguttaaluk Elementary School is located in the picturesque hamlet of Igloolik, Nunavut, serving the local community. The school supports approximately 395 students in a K-6 setting, with a dedicated staff of 40. The institution, along with its community, has a rich heritage of Inuit culture.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated candidates without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to meet all qualifications; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education will be highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both oral and written)
- Experience in implementing Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Background in teaching in a bilingual or ESL context
- Familiarity with teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy improvement
- Knowledge or experience in using modern assessment methods to guide learning
- Experience in fostering a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Proven ability to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Experience in promoting student well-being and engagement
- Background in interacting with students outside of the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
- Ability to work effectively within a school team
- Experience in learning from and contributing to a community-focused environment

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a valid public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications without this documentation will not be considered.
