About the School
Ataguttaaluk Elementary School is located in the picturesque hamlet of Igloolik, Nunavut, serving its local community. The school accommodates approximately 395 students from K-6 and is supported by a staff of 40. Both the institution and the community are steeped in Inuit cultural traditions.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a dedication to community-oriented education are highly regarded.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience in education aligned with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching methods
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Training or experience in employing current assessment strategies to inform learning
- Proven ability to foster a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Experience in enhancing student wellbeing and engagement
- Experience interacting with students outside the classroom when appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student supports
- Experience working collaboratively as part of a school team
- Experience learning and contributing within a shared, community-oriented framework

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: Available, with potential for shared accommodations.

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must submit a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate issued by a recognized Canadian jurisdiction. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
