Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates do not need to fulfill all qualifications; relevant experience and a dedication to community-engaged education are valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Familiarity with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Experience teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
- Teaching experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Proficiency in current assessment methods to guide learning
- Experience creating a positive classroom environment through effective management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- A proven history of fostering respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
- Experience in promoting student well-being and engagement
- Engagement with students beyond the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student supports
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative school team
- Experience contributing to and learning in a community-oriented environment

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Candidates from outside Nunavut must submit a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
