Required Qualifications

Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their qualifications assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates do not need to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
- Experience in delivering education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL environments
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Familiarity with contemporary assessment methods to support learning
- Proven ability to foster a positive learning environment using effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Experience in fostering student well-being and engagement
- Involvement with students outside of the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaborative planning for instructional and student support
- Proven capability to work effectively as part of a school team
- Active participation and contribution within a community-oriented environment

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Arctic Bay, Nunavut: $25,453
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a valid public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications that do not include this documentation will not be considered.
