About the School
Nuiyak Elementary, situated in the picturesque hamlet of Sanikiluaq, Nunavut, serves a lively local community. The school accommodates around 185 students from K-6 and is supported by a dedicated team of 23 staff members. Both the school and the community are steeped in Inuit cultural traditions.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers who do not hold a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not required to meet all qualifications; relevant experience and a commitment to community-driven education will be highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience with education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Background in teaching within bilingual or ESL contexts
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Training or experience in using contemporary assessment strategies to enhance learning
- Experience in creating a positive learning environment through effective classroom management practices (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Skill in establishing respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
- Experience in fostering student well-being and engagement
- Participation with students outside the classroom when appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and support for students
- Ability to function effectively as part of a school team
- Experience in learning from and contributing to a shared, community-minded environment

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Sanikiluaq, Nunavut: $20,293
- Subsidized Housing: Available, sharing may be required

Conditions of Employment
- Current Government of Nunavut employees must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications without this documentation will not be considered.
