Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
While candidates are not expected to meet every qualification, relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are greatly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
- Experience with education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Background in bilingual or ESL teaching environments
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian teaching settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Understanding of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Knowledge of current assessment strategies to guide learning
- Capability to cultivate a positive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
- Proven ability to foster student wellbeing and engagement
- Experience interacting with students outside of the classroom as necessary

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
- Ability to function as part of a collaborative school team

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (dependent on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: Not available

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Candidates from outside Nunavut are required to provide a copy of a valid public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
