About This Role

To work closely and support a student in Year 4 with special Educational Needs within a mainstream environment, ensuring that effective learning, social and emotional support is provided during class work & when undertaking other focused learning activities in mainstream education. With the ability to work under the direction of the classroom teacher and SENDCo and on your own initiative, you will make a valid contribution to the social, academic, moral, physical and emotional development of the pupil both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

This role should be seen as enabling rather than restrictive.

  • Preparing and using equipment and resources required to meet the lesson plans and relevant learning activities and assisting the pupil in their use;

  • Ensuring the pupil has appropriate access to opportunities to learn and develop;

  • Supervising learning and unstructured time activities such as breaks and trips and providing support under the direction of a teacher, for both pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities;

  • Work with individual pupils/ small groups to deliver learning programmes;

  • Encouraging the pupil to interact with others and engage in social activities;

  • Providing feedback to the pupil in relation to the progress and achievement, social and emotional development and interaction under the guidance of the teacher;

  • Facilitate daily routines as and when needed;

  • Support social and emotional development through positive interactions;

  • Creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment in accordance with lesson plans;

  • Liaise with staff, parents, and external professionals and attend ‘team around child’ meetings;

  • Using strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support the pupil in achieving learning goals;

  • Assisting with the preparation of learning activities as and when needed;

  • Monitoring pupil’s response to learning activities and accurately recording achievement and progress as directed;

  • Provide regular feedback to teachers on pupil achievement, progress, problems etc.;

  • Assisting with the supervision of pupils outside lesson times, including lunch and play times;

  • Promoting good pupil behaviour, inclusivity, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour;

  • Participating in any training and development activities to maintain own professional development or to enhance competence within the role;

  • Undertake any duties (particularly playground & dining room) and responsibilities commensurate with the post and participate in the regular review of the content of the job description;

  • To assist with whole school activities such as Sports’ Day, Assemblies, Swimming Gala etc.

The ideal Candidate will have:

Essential

  • Educated to A Level or equivalent

  • Minimum GCSE or equivalent in English and Mathematics

  • An understanding of the varied needs of children as they develop socially and academically

  • Ability to supervise groups of pupils

  • Ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner

  • Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to work both collaboratively and independently

  • Experience of working in an educational environment

  • An understanding of the importance of the need for confidentiality

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification in Childcare and/or Education

Compensation

€35,000 - €50,000 (Pre-Tax)
