Reports to: Middle School/ Principal
We are looking to hire an exceptional and dedicated Deputy Head of Middle School (Key Stage 3) who will concentrate on curriculum development, teaching and learning, and transition management.
This key leadership position within the Middle School entails ensuring that students benefit from a coherent and well-structured curriculum coupled with consistently high-quality teaching as they progress into, through, and beyond Key Stage 3.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for guiding the strategic advancement of Middle School offerings, enhancing classroom practices, and ensuring that transition phases, particularly from Primary to Year 7 and from Year 9 to KS4, are meticulously planned, academically robust, and offer pastoral support.
Key Focus of the Role
ā Spearheading the development and execution of the Middle School curriculum
ā Promoting consistently high standards in teaching and learning
ā Enhancing assessment and feedback methods
ā Leading efficient academic and pastoral transitions into and out of Middle School
ā Guaranteeing continuity, progression, and preparedness for future learning
Key Responsibilities (Overview)
ā Overseeing curriculum design, evaluation, and sequencing for Years 7ā9
ā Supporting and challenging teachers to elevate classroom practices
ā Evaluating the quality of teaching and learning and contributing to CPD
ā Collaborating closely with Primary and Secondary staff to ensure smooth transitions
ā Developing systems that bolster student readiness, confidence, and academic continuity
ā Assisting with transition activities, induction programs, and curriculum bridging initiatives
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
ā Qualified teacher status
ā Demonstrated history of high-quality classroom performance
ā Experience in middle leadership roles (e.g., HOD, Phase Leader, Coordinator)
ā Strong grasp of curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment
ā Background in supporting or leading teaching and learning initiatives
ā Capability to work effectively across various phases and departments
ā Outstanding communication and organizational skills
ā Commitment to ongoing professional development
Desirable Criteria
ā Experience leading transition programs or cross-phase projects
ā Involvement in inspection or accreditation processes
ā Coaching or mentoring experience
ā Background in an international or British curriculum setting
ā National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL)
