About This Role
Purpose of the Role
RGSPP is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Art Teacher to deliver high-quality teaching across the Secondary phase. The successful candidate will inspire pupils to explore artistic techniques, develop creative confidence, and cultivate a strong understanding of visual culture.
The role involves teaching Art across the Secondary curriculum, supporting pupils to develop both technical skills and creative expression, while contributing positively to the academic and co-curricular life of the school.
The successful candidate will:
- Deliver engaging Art lessons aligned with the British curriculum
- Encourage creativity, experimentation, and artistic confidence
- Develop pupils’ technical skills across a range of media and artistic disciplines
- Promote visual literacy and appreciation of art and design
- Embody RGSPP’s framework of Discovery, Opportunity, Values, and Excellence (DOVE)
Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging and well-structured Art lessons across the Secondary phase.
- Encourage creativity, originality, and thoughtful artistic expression.
- Develop pupils’ practical skills across a variety of artistic media.
- Provide opportunities for pupils to explore historical and contemporary art forms.
- Maintain high expectations for behaviour, effort, and presentation.
- Support pupils in developing independence, resilience, and confidence in their work.
Curriculum Development
- Contribute to the development of a coherent and ambitious Art curriculum aligned with British educational expectations.
- Support the development of creative projects that build artistic skill progressively across year groups.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure continuity between Primary and Secondary Art provision.
- Support the preparation of pupils for external examinations where relevant.
Assessment & Progress
- Use formative and summative assessment to monitor pupil progress and inform teaching.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback that supports pupils in improving their artistic skills.
- Maintain accurate records of attainment and progress.
- Contribute to reporting processes and parent communication.
Co-Curricular & Enrichment
- Contribute to enrichment opportunities that promote creativity and artistic exploration.
- Support school exhibitions and displays of pupil artwork.
- Lead or support Art clubs, creative workshops, or collaborative art projects.
- Participate in school trips, events, and wider co-curricular programmes.
Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments.
- Share effective practice and resources.
- Engage fully in professional learning opportunities.
- Contribute to a culture of reflection and continuous improvement.
Pastoral Responsibilities
- Support the pastoral development and wellbeing of pupils.
- Build positive relationships with pupils that support both academic success and wellbeing.
- Contribute to the wider pastoral life of the school through tutor responsibilities where required.
Operational Responsibilities & Compliance
- Maintain safe and organised Art learning environments.
- Ensure appropriate use and management of Art materials and equipment.
- Follow school policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety, and professional conduct.
- Support duties, assemblies, cover arrangements, and school procedures.
Marketing, Admissions & Community Engagement
- Support recruitment by showcasing the creative work of pupils.
- Assist with school events, exhibitions, and open days.
- Engage positively with parents and the wider school community.
