About This Role

GEMS Al Barsha National School are seeking an experienced Assistant Principal to join the Primary leadership team and lead English across the primary school this August 2026.

As Primary Assistant Principal, you will support the vision, core values, mission, aims and policies of the school. You will support and develop the effective leadership and management of the school whilst ensuring the highest possible standards of teaching, learning, curriculum, student achievement and pastoral care in the primary team. 

The Assistant Principal will:

  • Play an active role in school strategic planning and school self-review.

  • Be responsible for leading, developing and managing teaching and learning, the curriculum, target-setting, assessment, tracking, recording and reporting across the primary team.

  • Take a significant lead in developing the curriculum within the primary team in conjunction with senior and middle leaders and all teaching staff.

  • Lead, alongside members of the senior leadership team, target-setting, assessment and tracking data within the primary team.

  • Have accountability for the standards of attainment, progress, achievement and behaviour within the primary team, to monitor and evaluate the progress made in these areas and determine further actions for improvement.

  • Have an excellent working knowledge and understanding of the KHDA/DSIB UAE Inspection

  • Framework and Supplement, UAE Vision 2021 and National Agenda and use these to support leadership and management in the primary team.

Skills

  • Bachelor degree and Qualified Teacher Status.

  • Accredited leadership qualification or enrolled on a leadership development course.

  • Proven skills in change leadership and innovation.

  • Commitment to promote and support the vision, values and ethos of the School.

  • Evidence of significant and continued professional development.

  • Evidence of innovation leading to raised standards and improved student and staff motivation.

  • Knowledge and understanding of competency-led curriculum frameworks.

  • Knowledge and understanding of what constitutes high quality educational provision and how to secure it within the school.

  • Evidence of successful delivery against targets.

  • Possess drive, enthusiasm, determination and boundless energy to improve the life chances and experiences of students.

  • Generate high expectations, enthusiasm and commitment from staff.

  • Lead careers and future skills, education across the school.

  • Coordinate Parent Partnerships and Communication.

  • Line management of Heads of Department

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging lessons aligned to the required curriculum.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment for diverse learners.
  • Assess student progress rigorously and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Participate actively in broader school life, including extra-curricular programs.
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues to elevate instructional strategies.

Candidate Requirements

  • A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 2 years verifiable post-qualification teaching experience.
  • Demonstrable track record of excellent student outcomes.
  • A bachelor's degree directly related to your teaching specialization.
  • Clear criminal record check spanning the last 10 years of residency.
