The Role
We are seeking an inspiring, ambitious and highly skilled Assistant or Deputy Headteacher to join Banks House School’s senior leadership team.
This is a strategic and operational leadership role, combining:
Whole-school leadership and school improvement
Oversight of teaching, learning and curriculum (including outdoor learning)
Leadership of SEND provision and inclusion
Day-to-day operational management of the school
You will work closely with the Headteacher, Cascade Group leaders and wider stakeholders to ensure outstanding outcomes for all pupils.
This is a term time only post.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & School Improvement
Contribute to and help deliver the School Improvement Development Plan
Support the growth and development of Banks House School across multiple sites
Promote a culture of high expectations, inclusion and continuous improvement
Deputise for the Headteacher when required
Teaching, Learning & Curriculum
Lead the development and implementation of a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum, including outdoor learning
Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning across the school
Drive high standards of pupil progress, attainment and personal development
Use data effectively to inform planning and improve outcomes
SENDCo
Lead and manage SEND provision in line with the SEND Code of Practice
Oversee EHCPs, PEPs and personalised learning plans, ensuring outcomes are met
Coordinate multi-agency working and act as the main contact for external professionals and families
Monitor and evaluate the impact of SEND provision across the school
Ensure all staff are equipped to deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching
Staff Leadership & Development
Line manage and support teaching staff, including appraisal and performance management
Identify and deliver targeted CPD to improve practice across the school
Support recruitment, induction and ongoing development of staff
Foster a collaborative, supportive and accountable team culture
Behaviour, Safeguarding & Wellbeing
Lead on behaviour and positive support approaches, ensuring a safe, calm and nurturing environment
Promote safeguarding and the welfare of all pupils at all times
Support pupils’ personal development, wellbeing and readiness for adulthood
Partnerships & Communication
Build strong relationships with parents, carers, professionals and the wider community
Work closely with the Cascade Group and School Advisory Board
Communicate the school’s vision, ethos and values clearly and effectively
About You
We are looking for a candidate who:
Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Has acquired the NASENCo or has a desire to gain it
Has significant experience working with SEND and complex needs
Demonstrates strong leadership and management experience (senior or aspiring senior leader)
Has a secure understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes
Can inspire, motivate and develop staff
Has experience of school improvement and raising standards
Is committed to inclusion, safeguarding and achieving the best outcomes for every pupil
Desirable
NPQSL/NPQH or postgraduate leadership qualification
Experience in an independent or specialist school setting
