About This Role
Deputy Headteacher – Quality of Education and Standards
St Saviour’s & St Olave’s School, Southwark
Start: September 2026
Salary: Leadership Scale L17-20 Inner London
St Saviour’s & St Olave’s is seeking to appoint an exceptional Deputy Headteacher to lead the quality of education at a pivotal moment in the school’s development.
This is a school with a proud history and strong identity. Since 1903, we have had only six Headteachers — reflecting stability, continuity and enduring values.
We are a Church of England school with a deeply embedded Christian ethos, committed to inclusion, high expectations and the development of the whole child. Many of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and we are unapologetically ambitious for them. We are not an exams factory — we are a school that transforms lives through academic excellence, care and ambition.
We have strong foundations: high-quality teaching, positive outcomes, experienced staff, and a committed and supportive Governing Body.
From September 2026, under new Headship, we will enter a new phase — strengthening culture, sharpening consistency, and securing the highest standards across the school. We are committed to a culture of joyful rigour, where expectations are high and every student is supported to achieve their best.
We are looking for a strategic, values-driven leader who will:
lead teaching and learning across the school
line manage Heads of Department and oversee Sixth Form provision
drive standards through curriculum leadership, quality assurance and staff development
play a central role in Ofsted and SIAMS readiness
You will work closely with the Headteacher as a key strategic partner, deputising where required, and will join an experienced Senior Leadership Team where Assistant Headteachers lead significant areas of the school.
The Sixth Form has strong potential, supported by exceptional partnerships offering bursaries, mentoring and wider opportunities. You will work with established leaders to strengthen outcomes and support growth.
We are seeking a Deputy Headteacher who:
is an outstanding leader of teaching and learning
has integrity, resilience and strong moral purpose
is committed to the Christian ethos of the school
is ambitious and motivated to help secure the next phase of the school’s development
This is a rare opportunity to join a school with strong foundations and a clear sense of purpose — and to make a lasting difference to the lives of the young people we serve.
