About the Role
The EAL Coordinator will be responsible for leading and developing the school's whole-school EAL strategy, identifying, assessing, and tracking multilingual learners, and designing and overseeing targeted EAL interventions. The postholder will support classroom teachers with adaptive teaching strategies, deliver continuing professional development (CPD) on effective EAL pedagogy, and monitor student progress and the impact of interventions. The role also requires liaising with parents and external stakeholders where appropriate and maintaining accurate records in line with school and ADEK requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
The EAL Coordinator will develop and implement the school's EAL framework, ensuring the early identification and screening of multilingual learners. They will oversee the use of appropriate assessment tools to determine proficiency levels and ensure all provision aligns with the Tiered Model of Support (Universal, Targeted, and Intensive).
Teaching & Learning
The postholder will deliver targeted EAL support through both push-in and pull-out models as appropriate, while supporting teachers in adapting curriculum content for multilingual learners. They will promote inclusive classroom practice, foster language-rich learning environments, and provide dedicated support to students transitioning into the school.
Monitoring & Reporting
The EAL Coordinator will track the progress of EAL students and report termly, maintaining accurate and up-to-date student records. They will evaluate the impact of interventions and adjust provision accordingly to ensure continued improvement.
Collaboration
The postholder will work closely with the Inclusion team, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and Phase Leaders, providing CPD for teaching staff and building strong, supportive relationships with families.
Person Specification
Essential
Candidates must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent qualification, with demonstrable experience teaching within a British curriculum school. They should have a strong background in working with multilingual learners, a thorough understanding of EAL pedagogy and language acquisition theory, and proven experience leading interventions or coordinating educational provision. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, as is experience in delivering CPD to colleagues.
Desirable
Experience using standardised assessment tools for language proficiency and a background in international school settings would be advantageous.
