HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 08:00 until 17:00. 41 weeks per year. Practitioners will work a maximum of 40 hours per week.

The role of an Early Years Practitioner in Mill House Pre-school is key to developing our youngest children in a nurturing environment with a key focus on preparing them for the next stage in life. Through a deep understanding of child development through experiential learning, communication and open-ended exploration, practitioners will guide and shape the curriculum to meet the needs of each individual child. Once a child joins Mill House, their family become part of the Mill House family, and it is through these close relationships that practitioners ensure that the children reach their full potential.
All practitioners are Key People, and they will be responsible for a group of children and communications with their parents. They will be a part of the planning and assessment process, feeding in to both whole setting planning, and individualised planning for pupils. The pastoral care of the children is fundamental to their development and safety at Mill House, Practitioners will be responsible for ensuring that the setting, activities and developmental stages are supported with safety always at the forefront.
Practitioners are responsible for being a part of the day to day running of the setting as part of the team, which includes setting up and maintaining a safe learning environment, supporting in the preparation of snacks, supporting eating in the dining room, toilet training and the changing of nappies, and continued development of the setting.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To carry out the professional duties of an Early Years Practitioner as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school’s policies and EYFS framework under the direction of the Pre-school Manager and Head of the Prep School. Work as part of a team in providing high standards of education in a stimulating and challenging environment. Ensure safeguarding of children, and contribute to the ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ agenda. Support the aims of Giggleswick Prep School and work as part of a team in the organisation of high-quality provision. Promote the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of each child by meeting their individual and group needs. Ensure positive parent/carer partnerships. Support and deliver the provision during nonterm time (annual leave is arranged via the Pre-school Manager) Have responsibility for assisting the development of plans identified by clear targets and success criteria through the EY development plans. Contribute to EY and Personal development through attendance at appropriate meetings, training and the departmental quality assurance program. Ensure your work, communication and approach conforms brand values and style of the school. You will need to be aware and comply with the Giggleswick school rules, policies and procedures at all times, as detailed in the handbook you will be provided with at induction. Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved through observational assessment Identify and record significant learning and identify 'next steps' Analyse and interpret summative assessment data to monitor individual pupil progress Report verbally to parents/carers on their child's progress Support the Pre-school Manager in all aspects of M, A, R and R To participate in regular team meetings and personally contribute to the development and promotion of the School; You will be expected to be fully conversant with and implement the School’s range of equality and diversity and safeguarding policies and procedures, to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all pupils and staff; To participate in the School’s appraisal scheme and undergo further professional development in line with the needs of the school; Any other duties commensurate with grade and status as may reasonably be requested. You have a legal duty to take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others and you are expected to be familiar with, and adhere to, Giggleswick School’s Health and Safety policy Education and Qualifications GCSE level English and Maths Level 3 or Level 6 relevant childcare qualification Paediatric First Aid Skills Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop positive relationships with young people Good writing and computer skills Excellent communication skills An understanding of equality and diversity issues Personal Qualities Willingness and ability to be flexible Ability to relate to staff, students, parents/carers and governors. Ability to lead a team when necessary Highly organised with good time keeping Honest, reliable and patient Commitment and flexibility with the demands of the role Evidence of a commitment to promoting the health, welfare and safeguarding of children.
