The context - The Twyford Trust

The Twyford Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. The Twyford Trust aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting, and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’ (John 10 vs 10) encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the Trust is the overarching organisation which provides support and central services for all Trust schools.

The Twyford Trust Ethos

All schools within the Twyford Trust have a strong ethos which is drawn from the same simple statement of Christian values which they hold in common. Referred to as the 10:10 ethic, our ethos is one which encourages confident self-knowledge, humble self-reflection and a profound believe in each individual’s capacity to contribute positively in community and bring about improvement. Our schools are therefore very positive environments and whole school singing is an important feature which adds to this.

Twyford CE High School, Acton

Twyford CE High School was set up by the LDBS in 1981. The school has an excellent reputation and is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted (May 2012) and SIAMS (April 2017). It has developed specialisms in Music and Modern Foreign Languages, as well as a large and highly successful Sixth Form in which Maths, Maths and Computing are the largest areas. Since its inception, the school has grown considerably and now admits around 975 students aged 11 to 16, and an additional 500 students to the Sixth Form. The very high levels of over-subscription at Twyford, and desire to serve the local communities of Ealing was part of the motivation for setting up the additional Trust schools.

The Music College

Over 350 students receive instrumental tuition through the Music College (based at Twyford School), which comprises four full-time teachers of music, an administration team, musician-in-residence posts and sixteen instrumental tutors. Tuition is offered on voice, strings, woodwind, brass, guitar, drums, piano, keyboard and theory and instrumental tutors are a significant and valued part of the music college team. All are expected to contribute to the musical development of students through preparing them for entry to practical examinations through the ABRSM, Trinity and Rockschool boards as well as GCSE and A-Level performance examinations. Tutors also contribute significantly to a wide programme of extra-curricular activities.

William Perkin CE High School, Greenford

William Perkin Church of England High School opened in September 2013 and its first students will sit GCSEs in the summer of 2018 and become the school’s first Sixth form cohort. Located in Greenford, the school is named after the famous local chemist and entrepreneur who pioneered commercial dying. The school has taken Science and Languages as its specialisms, and also places a high emphasis on sport. The school is rated Ofsted and SIAMS ‘Outstanding’, and is heavily oversubscribed on first choice applicants.

Ealing Fields High School, South Ealing

Ealing Fields joined the Trust is September 2017 and serves the community based in the Northfields area of Ealing. It is a school which prides itself in being free-thinking and open-minded, and has Philosophy and Ethics as its specialism. Ealing Fields is the smallest of the Trust Schools and from September will have students in Years 7 – 9.  It will move into its new accommodation in Little Ealing Lane in September 2020.

Ada Lovelace Church of England High School

This school is named after one of the early pioneers of computing and will take Digital Technologies as its specialist area. It will be situated in the north of the borough and will have a brand new building, also opening in September 2020. The school will however open in September 2018 and for the first two years will be co-located at William Perkin High School. The growth of the Computing Specialism will sit alongside the strong emphasis on Science and Applied Science, which is already a notable strength.
