GBA is looking for an inspiring and enthusiastic Head of Key Stage 1 to join our growing school here in the heart of Kuwait.
Established in 2005, Gulf British Academy is a thriving British International School with BSO accreditation. The school presently caters for pupils from Pre-KG to Year 11 and will grow year on year to become a 3-18 through school. Purpose of the Role
- To lead and manage all aspects of teaching, learning, and pastoral care within Key Stage 1, ensuring high standards of achievement and well-being.
- To provide strategic leadership to support staff development and the implementation of the school’s vision and objectives.
- To monitor and enhance the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment across KS1.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment within KS1 to ensure consistency and high standards.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve pupil outcomes, ensuring they meet or exceed UK expectations.
- Support the professional development of KS1 staff through mentoring, coaching, and performance management.
- Contribute to whole-school improvement planning and policy-making
- Lead and manage the KS1 teaching team, including planning and chairing regular team meetings.
Curriculum Development:
- Oversee the planning, delivery, and review of the KS1 curriculum to ensure breadth, balance, and challenge for all learners.
- Ensure that the curriculum promotes creativity, critical thinking, P4C and independent learning.
- Stay informed about changes to the national curriculum and ensure their successful implementation.
Teaching and Learning:
- Promote a culture of high expectations for both teaching and learning.
- Lead by example through outstanding teaching practices.
- Support staff in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including those with additional needs and the more able.
Pastoral Care and Safeguarding:
- Take responsibility for the pastoral care and welfare of pupils in KS1, fostering a safe and inclusive environment.
- Ensure all safeguarding policies and procedures are implemented effectively.
- Work with parents to ensure a strong partnership and effective communication regarding pupil progress and well-being.
Monitoring and Assessment:
- Use data analysis to track pupil progress, identify trends, and implement targeted interventions where necessary.
- Ensure consistency in assessment practices across KS1.
- Prepare reports and present findings on pupil performance to senior leadership.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Act as a key point of contact for KS1 staff, parents, and external stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with other phase leaders and senior leadership to ensure smooth transitions between key stages.
- Represent KS2 at leadership meetings and contribute to the school’s overall vision and ethos.
What You Offer
Qualifications:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
Experience:
- Proven UK KS2 teaching experience or international experience within a British curriculum-based, BSO-accredited school.
- Demonstrable experience in a leadership or management role.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to inspire and build good relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
- Ability to analyse data and use it to drive improvement.
- Passion for education and a commitment to achieving the best outcomes for pupils.
- Promoting safeguarding of all students and equality of opportunity for all students and staff.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and/or police check.
- Google Workspace for Education certified - Level 2.
- Knowledge and experience with student management information systems (iSAMs, SIMS, etc).
- Familiarity with initiatives such as P4C, oracy, growth mindset and Rosenshine principles.

Candidate Requirements
- A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- A minimum of 2 years verifiable post-qualification teaching experience.
- Demonstrable track record of excellent student outcomes.
- A bachelor's degree directly related to your teaching specialization.
- Clear criminal record check spanning the last 10 years of residency.
