About This Role

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and innovative teacher to lead our Media Studies department within the English Faculty. The post is for an excellent teacher who is well-qualified, experienced and able to enthuse both students and colleagues. The successful candidate will be instrumental in inspiring and motivating our students, connecting what they learn to their everyday lives. Our forward-thinking Faculty takes a collaborative and supportive approach to the development of its staff, and you will play a key role in continuing to raise standards.

The English Faculty at Greig City Academy is creative, committed, collegial and very strong. We believe we work better for our students when we work as a team: we share resources, support one another’s development, and contribute ideas to improve and inspire each other. We also strongly believe in the Academy’s desire to incorporate extra-curricular opportunities to forge relationships, expand the curriculum, and broaden opportunities for students to engage with English as a subject. There is much scope here to develop in such a way. The English Faculty includes English and Media up to A Level, Whole School Literacy, and English as an Additional Language.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

  • be a successful classroom practitioner, committed to the highest standards of teaching and learning, through lesson planning and careful assessment

  • demonstrate good subject knowledge and a commitment to continuous improvement

  • manage behaviour effectively

  • approach teaching with enthusiasm and positivity

  • have a proven track record of delivering excellent public exam results over a period of time.

  • support the wider school vision

What We Offer

Our school is unique. It is a diverse, vibrant and supportive community where staff and students thrive on innovation, collaboration and a shared commitment to success. Staff go the extra mile to support students, and the outcomes are often extraordinary.

Our successful and oversubscribed Academy is a caring and creative environment in which all students can enjoy learning, develop enquiring minds and gain the skills and knowledge they need for a changing world. We want happy and successful children ready for their future.

Paul Sutton, our inspirational Principal, has built a strong and dedicated team of well-qualified staff who share a common vision to raise students’ achievement.

Staff at the Academy collaborate and support each other by sharing good practice and taking a collegiate approach with a focus on their own contribution to our collective vision. Students and staff work together with enthusiasm and commitment often over and beyond the school day.

The successful candidate will be joining a tight-knit community; staff turnover is consistently low, and the well-being of our staff is important to us. We aim to support staff to achieve a sensible work-life balance.

We have an array of wellbeing initiatives such as a weekly yoga session, regular visits from a qualified massage therapist and social events throughout the year, to name but a few. Other benefits staff can opt into include a cycle to work scheme and an interest-free annual season ticket loan.

We are committed to the principle of equal opportunities; we welcome all applicants and value the diversity they bring.

Greig City Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we have safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and additional pre-employment checks in line with the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance.

NOTE: It is an offence to apply for a role if the person is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

In line with the latest KCSIE statutory guidance, as part of our due diligence checks on shortlisted candidates, references will be requested before interview and an online search will be conducted.

Please apply exclusively via the WhatSchool platform.

The closing date for receiving completed application forms is 15th April 2026, 3pm.
