About This Role

We are seeking an outstanding and collaborative leader to join our Secondary Leadership Team as Head of Middle School (Years 7–9). Reporting to the Head of Secondary School, the successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership of our Key Stage 3 programme and students. They will set high expectations for learning, and ensure that our programme and approach is a strong foundation for progression into Key Stages 4 and 5. They will work collaboratively with teachers and teams to build a supportive, engaging and aspirational culture.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious leader to play a key role in shaping the culture and outcomes of our Key Stage 3 students

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic and day-to-day development of Years 7–9

  • Work as a member of the Secondary Leadership Team in leading academic and pastoral teams, and supporting students in Years 7–13

  • Work closely with our Head of Pastoral to ensure strong and consistent student behaviour and wellbeing systems

  • Work closely with our Assistant Heads (Teaching & Learning) to drive high-quality teaching and learning, and develop an ambitious, well-rounded and engaging Key Stage 3 curriculum.

  • Support the school in preparing for accreditation visits, processes and quality assurance requirements.

  • Respond to complex or sensitive student and family cases with professionalism and care

  • Monitor student progress, behaviour and engagement, implementing effective interventions

  • Support staff development and set high expectations for teaching and learning. 

  • Support the Head of Secondary in teacher recruitment and onboarding.

  • Oversee the smooth operation of the Middle School, including the organisation of key events, communication and day-to-day operations

  • Support student transition from Primary School into Year 7, and progression into Key Stage 4

 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent)

  • Significant Secondary School teaching experience in Key Stage 3

  • Proven leadership experience with an impact on student outcomes

  • Strong understanding of both academic and pastoral systems

  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills

  • A collaborative approach and commitment to whole-school improvement

Candidate Requirements

  • A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 2 years verifiable post-qualification teaching experience.
  • Demonstrable track record of excellent student outcomes.
  • A bachelor's degree directly related to your teaching specialization.
  • Clear criminal record check spanning the last 10 years of residency.
