Tormead School is an academically selective independent school for 800 girls aged 4β18, located in central Guildford. Students attain excellent examination results with 95% attaining grade A*-B at A Level and 89% attaining a grade 7-9 at GCSE in 2024.
After 20 years of dedicated service, our current Head of Physics is retiring, and we are looking to find a successor who shares the same passion for teaching, leadership, and commitment to excellence in the field of physics. This is an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant school community and take on a key leadership role, ensuring that the high standards of our physics department continue to thrive.
Physics is a popular subject at iGCSE and A Level. The department has a strong track record of success and has achieved excellent results. The Head of Physics has overall responsibility for leading the department and ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and achievement, and the creative development of the Physics Curriculum at Tormead.
This is an exciting opportunity for a well-qualified, creative and inspirational Teacher of Physics. The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for physics and a desire to inspire this in others. Candidates will have a firm grasp of curricular developments, inspire high standards in the classroom, have a warm approach, and will show enthusiasm for wider involvement in the Schoolβs rich co-curricular programme. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work harmoniously with others, including students, colleagues, parents, and the wider community.

Candidate Requirements
- A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- A minimum of 2 years verifiable post-qualification teaching experience.
- Demonstrable track record of excellent student outcomes.
- A bachelor's degree directly related to your teaching specialization.
- Clear criminal record check spanning the last 10 years of residency.
