We are currently seeking an experienced Head of Science / Chemistry Teacher to join our Science Department and deliver the Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum at the High/Secondary School level.

The Role

The position of Head of Science reports to the Head of Upper and Senior School. The teacher is required to create a positive and supportive learning environment and develop activities so that students are able to practice in a meaningful context. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver Chemistry to Upper and Senior students with a range of different abilities and capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Chemistry across Grades 6–12, including AP where applicable.

  • Plan assessments that mirror AP expectations, including FRQs, document analysis, and extended response questions.

  • Encourage students to develop critical thinking.

  • Participate in departmental planning, curriculum review, and resource development.

  • Maintain rigorous academic expectations while supporting student wellbeing.

  • Be respectful of the needs of colleagues and the department with regards to cooperation, collegiality, deadlines and team cohesion.

  • Participate positively in departmental meetings, follow policies and generally contributing to the effective and efficient running of the department.

  • Promote professional dialogue, share ideas about teaching and learning and support other teachers in developing good practice and new approaches and initiatives.

  • Take part in, and contribute to activities offered in the department and by the School.

  • Enthusiastically contribute to cross-curricular links and initiatives, and Leadership in Action activities.

  • Keep up to date with developments in the Subject, and in education generally.

  • Undertakes lessons observations of subject teachers with further feedback provision.

  • Devises high quality unit planning, with the latest international standards and practices.

  • Organises and carries out subject-specific planning and assessment standardisation across all year groups.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in Education, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in education sphere.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ leadership experience.

  • Teaching qualification required.

  • Experience teaching high-school English; AP experience a significant advantage.

  • Understanding of inquiry and project-based learning methodologies.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction for varied learning abilities.

  • Fluent English required.

  • Culturally responsive teaching mindset. Strong safeguarding awareness.

  • A high level of professionalism and consideration of the well-being of children.

  • Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.

  • Respect for all members of a school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background.

  • A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life.
