About This Role
Job Purpose
To lead and develop the Science department, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and student outcomes across the Secondary school. The Head of Science will drive curriculum excellence, support staff development, and ensure alignment with the KHDA expectations.
Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Provide strategic leadership for the Science department (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
Develop and implement a clear vision for teaching and learning in Science
Contribute to whole-school improvement planning and academic strategy
Ensure readiness for KHDA/DSIB inspections
Teaching & Learning
Monitor and enhance the quality of teaching through lesson observations, coaching, and feedback
Promote innovative and inquiry-based learning approaches in Science
Lead on assessment, tracking, and intervention strategies to improve student outcomes
Curriculum & Assessment
Oversee curriculum design and delivery across all key stages
Analyse data to monitor performance and implement improvement plans
Maintain high standards of marking, feedback, and assessment practices
Staff Management & Development
Lead, mentor, and support Science teachers and technicians
Support recruitment, induction, and retention of high-quality staff
Student Achievement & Wellbeing
Drive high standards of student attainment and progress in Science
Support student engagement, enrichment, and participation in STEM initiatives
Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment, including adherence to lab safety protocols
Operational & Compliance
Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively
Ensure compliance with health and safety standards in laboratories
Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting requirements
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Science (Biology/Chemistry/Physics or related field)
Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE / B.Ed. or equivalent)
Proven experience teaching Science within a British curriculum school
Previous leadership or middle leadership experience (e.g., Head of Department) would be desirable, but not essential for an outstanding candidate.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Familiarity with KHDA inspection framework is desirable

Candidate Requirements
- A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- A minimum of 2 years verifiable post-qualification teaching experience.
- Demonstrable track record of excellent student outcomes.
- A bachelor's degree directly related to your teaching specialization.
- Clear criminal record check spanning the last 10 years of residency.
