About This Role

Due to the school’s continued growth, we are seeking to appoint an inspiring Head of Sixth Form to start in August 2026.

The Head of Sixth Form at Cheltenham Muscat is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the academic progress, pastoral care, and overall development of students in the Sixth Form. This role is essential in ensuring that students thrive academically and personally within the British Independent School context, aligned with the Cambridge International Curriculum and the ethos derived from Cheltenham College UK. The Head of Sixth Form will foster a supportive and challenging learning environment, preparing students for successful completion of A Levels, and equipping them with the skills and character to excel beyond school.

As part of an all through school with a diverse student body, the role requires cultural sensitivity, strong leadership, and collaboration with teaching staff and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The Head of Sixth Form will also contribute to wider school leadership, including quality assurance, supporting the school’s vision to deliver a world-class British education infused with respect, integrity, and academic excellence.

The School

Cheltenham Muscat opened in September 2021 and is Oman’s first, premium, British school, for boys and girls aged 3 to 18. Key Responsibilities and Duties

Academic Leadership and Curriculum Oversight

  • Lead and manage the Sixth Form academic programme, ensuring effective delivery of A Levels with students matched effectively to appropriate courses.

  • Monitor and support student academic progress, providing guidance on subject choices, university applications, and career pathways.

  • Collaborate with subject leaders and teachers to maintain high standards of teaching and learning within the Sixth Form.

Pastoral Care and Student Development

  • Oversee the pastoral care of Sixth Form students, promoting their well-being, personal development, and positive behaviour.

  • Develop and quality assure a purposeful Life Skills programme for Sixth Form students.

  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that reflects the school’s values and respects cultural diversity.

  • Implement initiatives that encourage leadership, citizenship, and extracurricular engagement among Sixth Form students.

  • Overseeing student leadership within the Sixth Form.

  • Promoting the participation of Sixth Form students in the wider life of the school.

Leadership and Quality Assurance

  • Support the Senior Leadership Team in broader leadership activities including quality assurance processes across the school.

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of school policies, particularly those affecting Sixth Form provision.

  • Participate in staff recruitment, appraisal, and professional development activities relevant to the Sixth Form team.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Maintain strong communication channels with students, parents, staff, and external stakeholders to support Sixth Form success.

  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and other heads of phase to ensure coherent educational progression throughout the school.

  • Represent the school at external events and liaise with universities, examination boards, and other educational bodies.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Use assessment data and performance metrics to inform strategic planning and interventions for Sixth Form students.

  • Manage student attendance, monitoring trends and intervening to raise attendance.

  • Report to the Senior Leadership Team, governors, and parents as required.

Skills and Competencies

  • A relevant Bachelors Degree, QTS/PGCE

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and students.

  • Confident and articulate in presenting themselves to a range of stakeholders, earning the trust of our community.

  • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of engaging a diverse community.

  • Culturally sensitive and adaptable, with experience working in international or multicultural school environments.

  • Skilled in pastoral care and student welfare, with a commitment to safeguarding and promoting student well-being.

  • Organised and proactive, with strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

  • Competent in data analysis and using performance information to drive improvement.

Safeguarding

  • Act as a deputy designated safeguarding lead, maintaining vigilance in identifying and reporting concerns.

  • Uphold Cheltenham Muscat’s safeguarding policies and statutory guidance, ensuring the safety and protection of all Sixth Form students.

  • Promote a culture of safeguarding awareness among Sixth Form staff and students.

  • Ensure all activities and interactions within the Sixth Form meet legal and ethical standards related to child protection.

  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team and external agencies to support vulnerable students and maintain a safe learning environment.

Compensation

£35,000 - £55,000 (Tax-Free Equivalent)
