This is an incredible opportunity to be a part of the development of a unique and brand new type of school. Wildwood Nature School is a charitable, independent, nature-based primary school, committed to offering equal access for all families through free and reduced-fee places. Our ethos is all about supporting children’s well-being. We do this by:

  • spending at least half of the day outdoors in nature

  • building a strong, inclusive community

  • Individualised, child-centred approach

  • championing play and creativity

  • empowering children with a democratic approach.

We opened our doors to our first cohort of children in September 2023. We’re still very new and very much developing – finding out what works, what benefits the needs of the children and the community. Our teachers (as well as children and parents) play a big role in this process, meaning it’s a really exciting time to be part of our very small and incredibly committed team.

This job will suit someone who is looking to work in a role that’s very different to mainstream primary teaching, someone who wants to make a difference through doing things differently.

You will need a minimum of  3 years’ primary teaching experience in KS2, preferably upper KS2 (Y5+6). We’re looking to appoint a proactive, initiative-taking, teacher who can strengthen our team with experience and expertise. We’re looking for someone who can develop our child-led curriculum and approach in ways that will excite and challenge the children, across our age range, but particularly at the older end.

If you’re considering applying, make sure you take the time to read all about how we do things on our website.

Job description

This is a teaching role that will also include some leadership (Deputy DSL). As a small school (currently 20 students in total across Reception to Y4, growing to about 30 children over the next 2 years), all staff play a vital role in leading the school as well.

  • Working collaboratively alongside the school leaders and other teachers

  • Helping to build strong relationships with families to create a supportive and compassionate school community

  • Daily morning check-ins with staff and weekly staff meetings

  • Forming close, caring and appropriate relationships with the children in your care

  • Forming positive and constructive relationships with parents of our children.

  • Deputy DSL - Safeguarding children, reporting concerns and helping to create the school’s safeguarding culture
