About This Role
Welcome to Harrow Shanghai! We are a high-performing and market-leading international British curriculum school located in one of the most exciting cities in the world.
We offer an independent, British international education from Early Years to Upper Sixth within a modern and purpose-built campus just 35 minutes from the centre of the city. Shanghai is a great city, life is dynamic and varied, and there is a sense of energy and drive everywhere.
The School was launched in September 2016 and has grown into one of China's leading international schools. Harrow Shanghai pupils are engaged, aspirational and hard working, their parents are highly supportive and the staff are committed and close-knit. The community is exceptionally strong. Pupils achieve highly both within and outside the classroom and go on to enter many of the world's most competitive universities, including Oxbridge. Over the last four years, our Upper Sixth leavers have achieved an average of close to 75% A*/A grades across all A Levels taken. IGCSE results are also impressive, as is the progress achieved by our younger pupils.
Harrow is, though, about much more than simply outstanding academic results. Our pupils excel in a wide range of fields, including music, drama, sport and the arts, as well as involving themselves in service to the local community.
The Role
The School is seeking an exceptional Lower School Music Teacher to commence in post in August 2026. This is an exciting position, as Music is a flourishing subject in our school, and we are looking for someone to help build further on the outstanding progress we have made in this area over the past five years. We run an outstanding orchestra that has grown every year, alongside a Band programme, a number of chamber groups, a rapidly-expanding rock group programme, a flourishing choir programme and much more besides. Well over half of our pupils play instruments, and we now have most of those pupils involved in school music in some way. Last year, to give a sense of the place music has in our school, we led an extraordinary concert at the Shanghai Symphony Hall, combining the talents of 9 Harrow schools and leaving us all just a little breathless and more-than-slightly in awe.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder will also be an outstanding teacher! All teachers, including the Head Master, have a timetable, and we always look for teachers who have a love of teaching, the ability to challenge a wide range of pupil abilities, and who take a real pleasure in the company of children.
What We Offer
Successful applicants can expect a generous salary, a performance-related bonus, accommodation, medical and flight benefits, and 100% tuition fees remission for up to two children.
Apply exclusively via the WhatSchool platform.
Harrow Shanghai is committed to safeguarding the children in our care and their welfare is our top priority. All adults in the School community are expected to follow its Child Protection procedures and are required to undertake safeguarding checks.
