About This Role

Mandarin Teacher 

Position Description: The Lycée Français de Chicago is currently looking for an experienced Mandarin Teacher for language acquisition grades 4 through 12. The Mandarin Teacher instructs students in a rigorous educational program and shares their enthusiasm with students. They challenge and inspire students to help them deepen their knowledge and understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, preparing, and presenting lessons in Mandarin catering to the needs of a diverse range of learners in whole class, small group, or individualized settings. 

  • Teaching students oral and written comprehension and expression, as well as interpersonal communication, in Mandarin. 

  • Developing student understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.

  • Motivating students  with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations;

  • Preparing and evaluating work to facilitate positive student development;

  • Communicating with parents and providing them with feedback on a student's progress during parent meetings;

  • Working with others to plan and coordinate work, working flexibly with colleagues on curriculum planning, field trips, and various projects;

  • Organizing and taking part in school events, outings, and activities.

  • Other related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be a near-native or native Mandarin speaker. Familiarity with French is also appreciated.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred in Mandarin, Education or related field. 

  • At least two years of experience teaching Mandarin is preferred. 

  • The ideal candidate is flexible, organized, adept at multitasking, and able to work independently as part of a team. 

  • Appreciation of and sensitivity to cultural differences. Cross-cultural interests and/or experience in cross-cultural environments preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in solving problems, strong organizational and time management skills, and keen attention to detail, strong work ethic, and flexibility.

Additional Information

  • This exempt, salaried position has a tentative start date of August 12, 2026 and requires onsite presence at the Lycée campus.

  • This is a full-time position with benefits, including medical insurance, 403b, and tuition remission.

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
