About This Role

About Us

Abingdon House School (AHS) comprises the Prep School (located in South Kensington) and the Senior School (located in Marylebone). AHS caters for pupils aged 5-19 with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADD/ADHD, autistic spectrum condition, social communication difficulties and other associated needs.

The Role

The OT Lead will work in collaboration with the other members of the Senior Leadership Team and Middle Leadership Team within the Senior School in ensuring the aims and objectives of the school are achieved.

Professional Responsibilities

The following responsibilities shall be deemed to be included in the professional duties which the Head of OT will be required to perform:

  • Abiding by the policies and procedures of AHS and Cavendish Education.

  • Promoting and upholding the ethos, values and aims of AHS and Cavendish Education.

  • General duties are listed below. However, these duties may alter in line with the needs of the school, and as directed by the Headteacher or delegated member of staff.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Member of the Middle Leadership Team.

  • Report to the Head of Senior School.

  • Liaise with other Cavendish schools to share good practice.

  • Lead on the appraisals and observations of relevant staff, as determined by SLT.

  • Ensure involvement of OTs in developing and participating in the full life of the school, including enrichment, trips, events, and new initiatives

  • Promote the school in the wider community, engaging external professionals and stakeholders in collaborative working and partnerships as appropriate.

Main Duties and Responsibilities  

Assessment and Intervention

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students' individual needs and track progress over time.

  • Develop and implement tailored therapy plans aimed at improving students' access to the curriculum, daily living skills, and overall well being.

  • Regularly review and adjust intervention strategies based on student progress and changing needs.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate therapy goals and strategies throughout AHS and home environments.

  • Provide training and advice to staff and parents to support the application of therapeutic approaches in everyday activities.

  • Participate in regular meetings, including annual reviews, to discuss students' progress and contribute to setting future goals.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of assessments, therapy sessions, and progress reports in compliance with AHS practice.

  • Contribute to the development of individualised education plans (IEPs) and ensure therapy goals align with each student's educational targets.

  • Report regularly to SLT on the impact and effectiveness of the OT team.

Innovation and Best Practice

  • Stay current with developments in occupational therapy and special education by engaging in continuous professional development.

  • Lead the implementation of new techniques, resources, and technologies that can enhance therapeutic outcomes for students.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the OT service and develop initiatives to improve service delivery and student engagement.

Appraisal and Training

  • Participate in any arrangements for appraisal and professional feedback and development.

  • Provide OT training to staff, and ensure all OTs receive SEND and Education training from internal staff.

  • Support development of Therapy Teacher and any Therapy Assistants.

  • Develop and deliver programmes to support staff and parents.

  • Keep up to date with new developments in education with particular regard to OT and SEND teaching.

  • Participate in further training and professional development.

  • Participate in and lead staff training after attending individual training courses.

€35,000 - €50,000 (Pre-Tax)
