About This Role
Overview
The teacher of Physical Education will be responsible for delivering high-quality academic Physical Education lessons and contributing to the development of sport within the Claremont School. This role requires a dynamic and enthusiastic teacher who can inspire pupils both in the classroom and on the sports field.
The successful candidate will teach the academic curriculum for Physical Education, including GCSEs and BTEC Sports and Exercise Science, while also contributing to the school’s games programme through coaching and supporting competitive fixtures. The role involves teaching and coaching across the school’s core sports programme, including netball, hockey, football, and cricket as the core sports, with fitness, strength and conditioning, badminton and tennis offered as alternative sports, and supporting the wider co-curricular sports provision.
The post holder will foster excellence in PE and school sport, promote participation across all abilities, and ensure that the school provides a broad, engaging and inclusive programme aligned with national curriculum requirements and the school’s values.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder’s duties will include but not be limited to:
Deliver engaging and high-quality academic Physical Education lessons to pupils in Years 7 - 13.
Prepare pupils for public examinations in Physical Education, including GCSE and BTEC Sports and Exercise Science.
Contribute to the school’s games programme through the coaching and organisation of major team sports.
Promote a positive sporting culture that encourages participation, teamwork and personal development.
Support the delivery of the school’s co-curricular programme, including training sessions, fixtures, and tournaments.
Monitor and support pupil progress in both the academic and practical aspects of Physical Education.
Maintain high standards of behaviour, safety, and professionalism in all teaching and sporting activities.
All staff should actively support the framework provided by the school’s policy statements to fulfil the general aims and objectives of Claremont School.
Key Tasks
Plan and deliver well-structured lessons in line with the PE curriculum and examination specifications.
Teach the theoretical components of Physical Education to a high standard.
Assess, record and report on pupil progress for academic PE programmes in line with school policies.
Provide coaching and instruction in all sports offered at Claremont. This may include a Sports Lead role in one of the core sports: netball, hockey, football and cricket.
Ensure safe use of sports facilities and equipment in line with health and safety requirements.
Attend school events, fixtures, tournaments, relevant staff meetings and duties as required.
Promote a positive sporting culture that encourages participation, teamwork and wellbeing.
To ensure all students make excellent progress in their learning.
To maintain standards of discipline in line with Claremont’s policies.
To ensure learning spaces used remain tidy, orderly and conducive to good learning.
To complete all student assessment requirements, including the regular marking of homework, assessments, and coursework as appropriate.
To attend and participate at INSET and mandatory training.
