About This Role

About the School – Huddersfield Grammar School

Huddersfield Grammar School is a highly successful independent school in Yorkshire, providing a future‑facing curriculum for the next generation of leaders. Our academic results are exceptional, and pupil wellbeing and character development sit at the heart of everything we do.

Set in beautiful grounds, we offer a caring and supportive environment for children aged 3–16. From their earliest days in Nursery and Reception through the Pre‑Preparatory, Preparatory and Senior School, pupils are inspired, challenged and nurtured at every stage of their educational journey.

We provide strong academic stretch alongside an enviable co‑curricular programme, and we are renowned for our culture of kindness, inclusivity and ambition. Our pupils work hard, aspire to high standards, and grow into confident, well‑rounded members of the school and wider community.

The school now has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Playground & Pupil Support Supervisor to join our fantastic team.

About the Role

This is a varied and rewarding role supporting pupils across the school day. You will play a key part in ensuring that children are safe, happy and well‑supported during playtimes, in classrooms, at swimming sessions and within Homework Club.

Your responsibilities will include supervising pupils during morning and lunchtime breaks, promoting positive behaviour, encouraging inclusive play, and ensuring that all children feel secure and engaged. You will also support classroom routines, assist with swimming lessons, and help maintain a calm, focused environment during Homework Club.

As with all roles in school, safeguarding is a core responsibility. You will follow all safeguarding policies and procedures, participate fully in training, and prioritise the wellbeing of pupils and colleagues at all times.

Holiday Club Support

As part of the role, you may also support the delivery of the school’s Holiday Club provision. This will involve supervising groups of children, helping to facilitate engaging activities, and ensuring that all pupils are safe, happy and well‑cared for during school holiday periods. You will contribute to creating a warm, inclusive and enjoyable environment, supporting play, enrichment activities and positive social interaction. Flexibility, enthusiasm and a child‑centred approach are key to ensuring the Holiday Club runs smoothly and successfully.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a warm, proactive and reliable individual who is passionate about supporting children’s wellbeing and development. The ideal candidate will be confident in managing groups of pupils, promoting positive behaviour, and building supportive relationships.

You will be calm under pressure, able to use your initiative, and committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential.

Experience working with children—whether in a school, childcare or youth setting—would be an advantage, as would confidence in supporting structured activities such as swimming or Homework Club. A willingness to undertake relevant training, including safeguarding and first aid, is important.

Huddersfield Grammar School, part of Blenheim Schools, is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff, volunteers and third parties to share this commitment. Safer recruitment practices and pre‑employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all backgrounds. We are committed to treating all employees with dignity and respect.

Early applications are encouraged, as we reserve the right to interview and appoint before the closing date for the right candidate.
