Role Overview

Uptown International School is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking Primary Computing Teacher to lead the development and delivery of high-quality computing education across KG2 to Grade 5.

This is a unique opportunity for a passionate educator to shape a future-focused digital curriculum, integrating computing, digital literacy, and artificial intelligence meaningfully across the wider primary curriculum while maintaining excellent classroom practice through weekly specialist computing lessons.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring our students develop the skills, confidence, and ethical understanding to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver weekly computing lessons for students from KG2 to Grade 5

  • Ensure lessons are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with school curriculum expectations and international best practice

  • Develop students’ skills in:

    • Digital literacy

    • Computational thinking

    • Coding and problem-solving

    • Online safety and digital citizenship

    • Responsible and ethical use of AI and emerging technologies

Curriculum Development

  • Lead the adaptation and ongoing development of the school’s computing curriculum to ensure it remains current, progressive, and relevant

  • Ensure clear progression of skills and knowledge across all primary phases

  • Embed assessment and success criteria that reflect both technical skills and higher-order thinking

Cross-Curricular Integration

  • Support teachers in integrating computing and AI across the wider curriculum, including English, Maths, Science, and PYP Units of Inquiry

  • Model effective classroom practice and provide practical strategies for meaningful technology use

  • Collaborate with subject and phase leaders to identify opportunities for digital innovation

Leadership & Professional Development

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and CPD for staff to build confidence and consistency in the use of computing and AI

  • Contribute to whole-school digital strategy and innovation planning

  • Support the development of policies related to online safety, AI use, and digital learning

Community & Safeguarding

  • Promote strong online safety awareness among students, staff, and parents

  • Support school initiatives related to digital wellbeing and responsible technology use


Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified teacher status or recognised teaching qualification

  • Understanding of what outstanding teaching looks like

  • Experience teaching computing or digital learning in a primary setting

  • Strong understanding of progression in computing from early years to upper primary

  • Confidence in using and explaining AI tools in an age-appropriate, ethical, and educational way

  • Ability to inspire and support colleagues through coaching and collaboration

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Experience leading a subject or curriculum area

  • Familiarity with IB PYP or inquiry-based learning approaches

  • Experience delivering staff CPD

  • Knowledge of international or UK primary computing frameworks
