About This Role

School minibus driver 

 

Salary:   £11,000 - £13,200 depending on licence and experience. 

Contract: Term time 32 weeks per annum 

Hours:  6.15am - 8.30am and 3.45pm - 6pm 

We are also seeking bank‑staff drivers who can provide ad‑hoc cover for our school transport needs, including morning and afternoon pick‑ups and

drop‑offs, as well as school trips.

Start:  As soon as mutually agreeable 

Location: Atelier 21 Future School, Crawley – and bus stop locations

Role overview  

We are looking for a reliable, safety‑conscious School Minibus Driver to join our team and support the safe transport of learners to and from school each day. You will follow planned routes, collect and drop off learners at agreed times and locations, and ensure that every journey is calm, professional, and child‑centred. 

A key part of the role is maintaining high standards of safety, conduct, and communication. You will be responsible for carrying out routine vehicle checks, reporting any issues promptly, and always keeping the minibus clean and presentable. You may also be asked to transport pupils to special events or activities as required. 

Because this is a safety‑critical role, the successful candidate must be in excellent health, with the physical ability to support safe boarding, secure seatbelts, and respond appropriately in an emergency. 

This position can be an excellent fit for someone who is retired and looking for a rewarding part‑time role, or for someone who would like to work additional hours alongside another position. 

 

Key Responsibilities  

 

  • Responsible for following planned routes for the collection of learners in the morning and afternoon at agreed times at the agreed pick up and drop off locations. 

  • Ensure any issues with school transport is reported to line manager in a timely manner. 

  • Always maintain the cleanliness of the minibus.  

  • Report any learner late arrivals (morning or afternoon) to appropriate member of staff. 

  • Transport pupils to special events as required. 

  • To perform any responsibilities associated with being a member of the school's staff, as reasonably directed by the Operations Manager or Head of School. 

  • Report any concerns via cPoms and in some cases also alert your line leader/relevant member of staff. 

Personal specifications 

Essential Requirements 

  • Full UK driving licence with D1 entitlement (or equivalent)  

  • Eligibility to obtain a PCV licence and Driver CPC qualification 

  • Candidates must either hold these or be willing to complete training as part of the role 

  • Good driving record with no serious endorsements 

  • Basic understanding of road safety and the Highway Code 

  • Ability to carry out routine vehicle checks and report issues 

  • Excellent health 

  • Punctuality and reliability 

  • Clear and respectful communication skills 

  • Sufficient physical fitness to assist with boarding, seatbelts, and emergency procedures 

  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and safeguarding training 

 

 

Desirable Skills 

  • Experience working with children or young people 

  • First Aid training or willingness to undertake it 

  • Calm, patient, and professional demeanour 

  • Flexibility to support occasional trips or schedule changes 

  • Awareness of SEND and inclusive transport needs 

  • Basic record-keeping skills (e.g. mileage, incidents) 

  • Team-oriented approach and positive attitude 

  • Commitment to upholding the school’s values and representing it well to families and the public
