SEND Pastoral Teaching Assistant - Pellon, Halifax HX2 0RU
Salary: £24,570 - £25,935 (From 1st April: £26,228 - £27,593) | Full Time (37.5 hours/week)
Purpose of the Role
To provide high-level support for teaching and learning, including leading classes or groups under the direction of qualified teachers. The HLTA will contribute to the education and wellbeing of pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours, modelling the EPIC values and adhering strictly to the Staff Code of Conduct to promote a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Mentoring, supporting and inspiring learners by supporting them with curriculum-based learning in the classroom, on home tuition and outreach and through outdoor activities
Assist with the preparation of learning material and contributing to the delivery of learning objectives with a strong focus on behavioural management
Daily reports on learners’ progress and barriers to learning
Knowledge and experience in implementing trauma-informed practices to support students facing emotional challenges, ensuring they feel safe, understood, and supported
An ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external support agencies to create a holistic approach to each student’s development
A genuine enthusiasm for working within an SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) environment and a desire to foster positive relationships with students
Expertise in providing pastoral care that addresses the emotional, social, and academic needs of students, fostering a culture of respect and inclusion
Proven strategies and experience in behaviour management and interventions that positively influence student behaviour and learning outcomes
Requirements
A committed and passionate view of students with SEND
At least two years’ experience minimum of working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision
A level 3 TA qualification is advantageous
