About This Role

Experienced Sensory Teacher – Year 5 & 6 (Sensory / complex needs)

Cherry Trees Special School is an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ school and is situated in South Staffordshire in the large village of Wombourne.  It is part of the Endeavour Multi Academy Trust.

We are looking for an outstanding sensory teacher with extensive experience supporting children in upper Key Stage 2 who present with complex learning, sensory, and communication needs.

This role also includes a TLR for leading sensory practice across the whole school. The successful candidate will use their expertise to shape, develop, and champion outstanding sensory provision, modelling best practice and working alongside colleagues to ensure consistently high-quality sensory approaches in every classroom.

This is a unique opportunity to join a nurturing and specialist setting where sensory approaches are central to teaching and learning. You will be working with pupils in Years 5 and 6 who may have profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism, sensory processing challenges, and/or significant medical needs. As part of this role, you will also join our extended leadership team and will take on a whole school sensory leadership responsibility (TLR), using your knowledge and experience to model exemplary sensory practice, advise and support colleagues, and enhance sensory provision across the school.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is a qualified teacher with a strong background in SEND, particularly with children aged 9–11 who require highly personalised, sensory-based learning.
  • Has a deep understanding of sensory integration and can design and deliver engaging, multi-sensory lessons that support regulation, communication, and cognitive development.
  • Can skilfully adapt the curriculum to meet individual EHCP outcomes, using creative approaches that promote independence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Works collaboratively with families, therapists, and support staff to create consistent and responsive learning environments.
  • Is confident in using sensory rooms, outdoor spaces, and therapeutic strategies to enhance engagement and progress.
  • Brings warmth, resilience, and a reflective mindset to a team that values child-led practice and holistic development.
  • Is able to lead sensory provision across the school, providing guidance, coaching, and strategic oversight to ensure sensory approaches are embedded and impactful in every phase.

What We Offer

In return, we offer:

  • A supportive leadership team committed to inclusive and innovative practice.
  • Access to high-quality CPD in sensory integration, trauma-informed approaches, and assistive technology.
  • A well-resourced environment tailored to the needs of children with complex profiles.
  • A culture of collaboration, care, and celebration of every small step of progress.

If you are ready to bring your expertise and creativity to a setting where sensory teaching transforms lives, we would love to hear from you. Apply exclusively via the WhatSchool platform.

The responsibilities of the post are to be performed in accordance with the provisions of the most up to date edition of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document and within the range of teachers’ duties set out in that document, and taking into account the Teachers’ Standards as set out by the Department for Education.
