Are you an educator who leads through influence, expertise, and relationships?
Are you passionate about growing teacher capability and building inclusive practice where all learners can thrive?

Sommerville School is a specialist school supporting learners with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. Our Specialist Teacher Outreach Service (STOS) extends this expertise into mainstream primary and secondary schools across East Auckland, supporting learners, teachers, and school teams to build inclusive and effective practice.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated teacher who has worked with ORS learners, or a Specialist Outreach Teacher who brings strong pedagogical expertise and a commitment to leadership through coaching, modelling, and professional learning.

About the role

This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role where no two schools or learners are the same. You will work alongside mainstream schools to:

  • Strengthen teacher and support staff capability
  • Support inclusive practice for learners with complex needs
  • Build confidence, consistency, and sustainable systems within schools

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Are an experienced specialist teacher with a passion for inclusive education
  • Have demonstrated ability to grow the practice of others through coaching and modelling
  • Are confident leading professional learning and facilitating reflective conversations
  • Bring strong interpersonal skills and build trust easily across diverse school settings
  • Thrive in a role with professional autonomy and shared accountability
  • Have a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset
  • Hold a current, clean driver’s licence and are willing to use your own vehicle (travel reimbursed)

This position commences in Term 2 2026, or as negotiated.

The terms and conditions, including base salary, are set by the Primary Teachers' Collective Agreement. The base salary for trained and registered teachers in 2025 currently ranges from $61,329–$103,086 depending on qualifications and experience. Salary will be confirmed through a salary assessment following appointment.

We may appoint prior to the deadline, so please submit your CV soon.
