Job Overview
The Head of Art & Design at AMIS Schools is responsible for leading and developing the Art & Design Department, fostering creativity, innovation, and technical excellence while ensuring the delivery of high-quality visual arts and Design & Technology education. This role combines strategic leadership, curriculum development, teacher mentorship, and student development across Art, Design, and Technology disciplines. The Head of Art & Design will play a key role in shaping a forward-thinking curriculum that integrates fine art, design thinking, resistant materials, graphic products, and digital design practices. The role requires close collaboration with school leadership, faculty, students, parents, and the wider community to create a dynamic and inspiring learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development & Implementation
Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive Art & Design curriculum aligned with AMIS Schools’ educational standards and international best practices.
Integrate fine arts, graphic design, resistant materials, product design, visual communication, and digital media into the curriculum.
Embed contemporary art trends, emerging technologies, and design thinking methodologies.
Teaching & Learning Excellence
Lead and support teachers in delivering high-quality Art & Design and D&T instruction through mentoring and professional guidance.
Promote creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
Ensure effective implementation of studio work, technical drawing, design projects, and student portfolios.
Teacher Training & Professional Development
Provide ongoing professional development in Art, Design, and Design & Technology pedagogy.
Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration across departments.
Stay updated on global developments in art and design education.
Students Engagement & Assesment
Monitor and evaluate student progress using formative and summative assessment methods.
Guide students in developing strong portfolios for IGCSE and further studies.
Organize exhibitions, competitions, and showcases.
Studio & Resource Management
Oversee art studios, D&T workshops, and digital design facilities.
Ensure safe and effective use of equipment and materials.
Manage departmental budgets and procurement processes.
Community & Leadership Engagement
Build partnerships with artists, designers, and creative industry professionals.
Communicate effectively with parents and the school community.
Contribute to school leadership and strategic planning initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate:
● A visionary and dynamic educator with strong expertise in Design & Technology, particularly in Resistant Materials and Graphic Products, with the ability to integrate design thinking into the wider Art & Design curriculum.
● Confident in delivering Technical Drawing skills and guiding students progressively from KS3 through IGCSE, ensuring strong foundations in both creative and technical competencies.
● Capable of designing, leading, and implementing an innovative Art & Design curriculum that combines fine art, design principles, and practical D&T applications to inspire and engage learners.
● Experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE is desirable; a willingness to undertake training and professional development where necessary is essential.
● An inspirational and strategic leader who can mentor staff, foster a culture of creativity and excellence, and enhance student achievement across Art, Design, and Technology discipline

Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in the subject area applied with post graduate teaching qualification. A Masters degree is desirable.

Candidate Requirements

- Clear criminal record check spanning the last 10 years of residency.
