About This Role
Malbank School & Sixth Form College
Full Time Teacher of Design & Technology (with the option of the post being part-time to 0.7FTE) MPS/UPS
Permanent contract from SEPTEMBER 2026
We are looking to appoint an outstanding teacher of Design & Technology to add to the capacity of our Technology team. While teaching D&T Product Design and Engineering Design will be the primary focus of this role, the ideal candidate must be flexible and willing to teach all disciplines at Key Stage 3, including Product Design, Food Technology, and potentially Textiles.
As our school continues to grow, we are looking to further improve the Teaching & Learning experience of all by reducing class sizes in the Technology department. In addition to this, we have expanded the range of courses on offer at KS4 within this curriculum area to meet the needs of our students and to give them the very best opportunity to succeed. The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with a track record of supporting students to ensure that they make excellent progress.
At KS3 all students study Technology delivered on a carousel model, with Product Design, Food Technology, and Textiles all being crucial parts of this foundation. Building upon this, we offer GCSE Design & Technology, OCR Engineering Design, and WJEC Hospitality and Catering pathways at Key Stage 4. Recognising the growing demand for skilled professionals across these design, engineering, and hospitality industries, we are eager to expand and strengthen this provision to give our students the best possible pathways into Key Stage 5 and beyond, where we proudly offer AQA A-level Design & Technology. We are keen to expand out curriculum choices at KS5.
About the department
Technology is taught by four specialist teachers who form a friendly and co-operative team. Two are Product Design specialists, one is a Food Technology specialist, and one is a Textiles specialist; however, all teachers are expected to be flexible and teach across the key stage 3 Technology carousel. The department further benefits from the specialised expertise of a dedicated D&T technician and a Food Technology technician. We have 3 specialist DT workshops, 2 specialist Food Technology rooms, a CAD computer room and Textile’s facilities, all supported with appropriate technologies. The Technology Department benefits from the advantage of CAD/CAM equipment including a 3D Printer and laser cutter.
We are looking for a candidate who is:
· An inspirational teacher with high expectations of students and themselves, who is determined to secure good outcomes for students.
· Able to deliver high-quality GCSE Design & Technology and Engineering Design courses at KS4, and flexible enough to teach all Technology disciplines (Product Design, Food, Textiles) at KS3.
· A belief that all pupils can succeed in this curriculum area.
· Willing to generously give their time outside of lessons to students and colleagues.
· Actively supportive of the learning culture and values of the school.
· Committed to their professional development.
· Resilient, has presence, boundless energy and a good sense of humour.
Continued professional development is strong within the Technology team, with a timetabled fortnightly CPD period. The Head of Department is passionate about developing the team, driving a love of the subject and is committed to improving the experience within Technology.
