About This Role

Position: Tutor (outreach)

  • £26-£40 per hour

  • Flexible working hours

  • Sessions take place within Term Time only

  • Extensive CPD programme that is COMPLETELY FREE

  • It's cheesy - but we do Tutor of the week

  • Flexible & creative approach to education that puts pupils first!

  • Support given from a team of experienced educators

  • If you are a passionate, patient and creative Teacher, Tutor or TA with experience in adapting and supporting learners to overcome barriers, What are you waiting for? We want to hear from you!

As an outreach Tutor for Chalkline, you would be considered an "agency worker", and although we don't guarantee any number of hours per week, we work differently to most agencies out there, to lower the possibility of any Tutors hours dropping below what they need, we currently have over 25 hours per week available immediately, with a potential guaranteed work scheme for the right person!

There is no need to register as self-employed, but if you prefer to do it that way, we can still work with you.

    Session Delivery:

When we get a new referral, we call you - you choose if you become that young persons Tutor - but they do need consistency & routine, so stick with them!

Most of the pupils we work with need support with Maths and English, in a way that is adaptable to their needs, engaging and fun! As a Tutor, you can be creative with the sessions/activities covered (supported by the team) and be flexible in your approach, to find a way that works for your pupil(s).

Sessions are in-person and on a 1:1 basis or small groups of up to 4 Pupils

    Time & Location:

Our sessions are often requested by schools, so they take place during term time, and would typically take place no earlier than 08:30, and no later than 16:30. The location of your sessions would be dependent on each individual assignment/pupil. Sessions may take place at a school, in a pupils home (or residential care home), or at an agreed public venue like a Library or family centre.

    Pupils:

We work with a range of pupils with varying needs. Most pupils we work with are 11-16 years old, and are either children in care, children with special educational needs, or just in need of additional support.

    Resources:

You will have access to a catalogue of internal resources & printables, as well as access to material from resource/learning platforms like Twinkl and BKSB.

If you do ever need to deliver sessions online as part of a request, you will also be supported with MS Teams or Bramble, however these requests are rare.

    Hours & Pay:

As an agency worker, you would be paid for each hour of tutoring delivered, and assignments (along with number of hours required each week) would be discussed and agreed before sessions begin.

The aim is for Tutors to take assignments within a reasonable distance of home, and anyone traveling further would receive a higher hourly rate for the given assignment to offset some of the additional travel expense. 1:1 sessions range from £26 - £30 p/h and Group assignments range from £30 - £40 p/h

    Reporting:

You will need to complete a timesheet and detailed reports by Friday every week for each pupil you work with. Key documents are shared via google drive on your own individual Chalkline Email address.

Here's an example of how a typical assignment works:

    • We discuss details of sessions for a pupil in need of support

    • You contact the parent/carer/school to introduce yourself and set up a session schedule

    • You agree days/times in line with the request

    • You deliver sessions in the given subjects (Maths/English) every subsequent week on the same days/times until support is no longer required for that pupil

    • Each week you submit a timesheet detailing the sessions you complete, and a weekly report of what has taken place in each session, as well as targets to measure the progress made Note - if you are self-employed you also send in an invoice at the end of the week. If not, you only need to send the timesheet and report

    • If you have more availability, you can take on additional pupils outside of your current assignment

    • You complete each week, and you are paid the following week
