About This Role

Knowledge and understanding

-Have a good knowledge of the relevant aspects of the National Curriculum and other statutory requirements.

-Know how to respond to subject-related questions which pupils raise and be able to ascertain the real point of the question.

-Planning and setting expectations

-Contribute to long-term and medium-term planning to ensure that the curriculum is broad, varied and relevant to the needs of the pupils.

-Follow the school’s curriculum documentation with regard to learning objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences.

-Set appropriate yet challenging expectations for pupils’ learning and motivation. Set clear targets for pupils’ learning, building on prior attainment.

-Identify pupils who have special educational needs, working within the school’s systems to provide positive and targeted support. Implement and keep relevant records.

Teaching and managing pupil learning

-Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groups and individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge are maintained, and best use is made of teaching time.

-Ensure teaching follows the school’s BASIC lesson structure and consistently adopts Bloxham CE Primary School’s agreed pedagogy, including review and retrieval, small steps, modelling, effective questioning, guided to independent practice, appropriate scaffolding, purposeful vocabulary development and live feedback.

-Ensure appropriate adaptations are planned and implemented so that all pupils, including those with SEND and other identified needs, can access learning, experience appropriate challenge and make progress.

-Use teaching methods which keep pupils engaged, including stimulating pupils’ intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response, clear presentation and good use of resources.

-Provide opportunities within which pupils increasingly take responsibility for their own learning.

-Set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships.

Assessment and evaluation

-Evaluate how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this to determine objectives for future teaching, in accordance with the school’s assessment policy.

-In line with the school’s Feedback and Marking Policy, monitor pupils’ work and learning, provide effective feedback and ensure misconceptions are identified and clearly addressed so that pupils can move forward securely in their learning.

-Use assessment information to identify pupils who require additional support and ensure necessary interventions are implemented, recorded and reviewed for impact, with a clear focus on securing progress.

-Enter assessment and other required pupil data accurately and within agreed timescales onto the school’s tracking system. Use this information to monitor individual and cohort progress, identify pupils at risk of falling behind and inform appropriate teaching, adaptations and intervention. Keep parents and carers informed about their child’s attainment, progress and next steps in line with the school’s reporting arrangements.

Relations with parents and wider community

-Promote positive relations with parents, carers and the wider community by encouraging a working partnership with the school.

-Ensure reports to parents are provided in line with school timescales.

-Recognise that learning takes place outside the school context and provide opportunities to develop pupils’ understanding by relating their learning to real and work-related examples.

-Understand the need to liaise with agencies responsible for pupils’ welfare.

Managing own performance and development

-Understand the need to take responsibility for their own professional development and keep up to date with research and developments in learning for the subjects they teach.

-Understand and fulfil their professional responsibilities in accordance with the current Teachers’ Standards, school policies, procedures and agreed professional expectations.

-Uphold the school’s Staff Code of Conduct at all times and act in a way that protects and promotes the good reputation of Bloxham CE Primary School. Maintain the highest standards of professional behaviour, integrity, confidentiality and communication, recognising that conduct and communication, including online and through social media, can affect public confidence in the school and the teaching profession.

-Actively contribute to and uphold the distinctive ethos and culture of Bloxham CE Primary School, supporting colleagues and pupils to live out the school’s vision and values and challenging attitudes or behaviours that are inconsistent with them.

-Be an exemplary role model for pupils and the wider school community, demonstrating through words, actions, relationships and professional conduct a clear belief in and commitment to the school’s Christian vision, Be. Build. Become. and the iCATCH values of being Inclusive, Caring, Ambitious, Trustworthy, Creative and Honest.

-Evaluate their own teaching critically and use this to improve their effectiveness.

-Attend weekly development meetings and INSET specified within the directed time calendar.

Managing and developing staff and other adults

Establish respectful and effective working relationships with all staff and other adults, contributing positively to the supportive and collaborative culture of Bloxham CE Primary School.

Managing resources

-Select and make good use of books, technology and other learning resources which enable teaching objectives to be met.

-Ensure the safe use of all equipment at all times.

Safeguarding

-Promote the safety and well-being of pupils, adhering to Bloxham CE Primary School’s safeguarding and child protection policies and all national statutory safeguarding requirements.

-Be aware of and follow health and safety procedures for all staff and pupils at all times.

-Teach all pupils that they also have a responsibility for their own health and safety.

£30,000 - £46,525 (MPS/UPS Scale)
