About This Role

Purpose of the Role: To ensure the safety, welfare, and positive behaviour of pupils during the lunchtime period, supporting a happy, calm, and inclusive environment both in the dining hall and in the playground.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision and Safety

  • Supervise children during the lunchtime period, including in the dining hall, playground, and classrooms as required.
  • Ensure pupils’ safety at all times, following school policies and procedures.
  • Deal with minor incidents and first aid as appropriate, reporting concerns to Main First Aider/senior staff when necessary.

Dining Hall Duties

  • Support children with lining up and using cutlery where needed.
  • Encourage good table manners and positive social behaviour.
  • Assist younger pupils with eating where appropriate, while promoting independence.
  • Assist with the cleaning up of the dining both during lunch and at the end of the lunch break.

Playground and Behaviour

  • Supervise and engage with children during playtime, encouraging inclusive and positive play.
  • Promote good behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Help pupils resolve minor disagreements calmly and fairly.

Wellbeing and Inclusion

  • Support the emotional wellbeing of all pupils.
  • Ensure all children feel included, safe, and valued during lunchtime.
  • Be aware of and support pupils with additional needs as directed by school staff.

Safeguarding

  • Be fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.


Person Specification

Essential

  • A caring, patient, and approachable manner.
  • Ability to supervise groups of young children effectively.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Understanding of the needs of young children.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s wellbeing.

Desirable

  • Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting.
  • Basic first aid training (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour management strategies.

Compensation
