About This Role

The Role

St Mark’s Church of England School is seeking to appoint a committed and experienced Associate SENCO to support the leadership and development of SEND provision within our Secondary Phase.

Working closely with the Head of SEND, the Associate SENCO will help deliver the school’s strategic vision for SEND, ensuring that students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities receive high-quality, impactful and compliant support. This role focuses on SEND leadership, case management, statutory processes and provision planning, ensuring students are well supported academically, socially and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead the statutory review process for students with EHCPs, ensuring compliance and high-quality documentation
  • Evaluate student progress against EHCP outcomes and set clear, measurable targets
  • Oversee the development, review and quality assurance of SEN Pupil Support Plans
  • Monitor the impact of interventions and adapt provision to meet student needs
  • Act as a key point of contact for parents/carers, building strong, collaborative relationships
  • Work closely with external agencies and coordinate multi-agency support for students
  • Contribute to referrals, funding bids and implementation of external recommendations
  • Support the evaluation and continuous improvement of SEND provision across the school
  • Line manage Teaching Assistants, including performance management, deployment and development
  • Promote high-quality inclusive teaching by supporting and advising classroom staff
  • Provide coaching and guidance to staff on SEND strategies and interventions
  • Contribute to SEND strategy, self-evaluation and whole-school development priorities
  • Work collaboratively with SEND leadership to ensure statutory duties and deadlines are met
  • Support exam access arrangements through evidence gathering and coordination

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience of working with students with SEND in a secondary setting.
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Experience of working with parents and external agencies.
  • Excellent written skills, particularly for formal documentation, e.g. Pupil Support Plans and parental communication
  • Proficiency with the use of computer technology, including Excel.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and compliance.
  • Effective communication skills with students, parents and staff.

Desirable

  • Experience of writing and reviewing EHCP documentation and support plans.
  • Experience of quality assurance or provision review.
  • Experience of leading or supervising staff.
