Duties and Responsibilities
The aim of the Coach of Teaching and Learning (Primary School) (CTL) role is to contribute to the enhancement of effective teaching practices at CAIS by providing support for the professional growth of other teachers in the school. This could be through:
• Supporting and assisting beginning teachers to develop and demonstrate effective teaching practices through the Growth Matrix and maintaining a purposeful learning environment that engages students;
• Supporting and assisting other teachers in the school with effective teaching practices and maintaining a purposeful learning environment that engages students;
• Supporting and assisting teachers to expand their knowledge, skills and attributes to increase teaching effectiveness;
• Encouraging collaborative, reflective and shared practice
• Providing leadership in school wide professional learning and development.
Qualifications and Experience
Implementation of the CTL role can take the form of:
Coaching, leading professional learning groups, providing professional reading and leading discussion groups, developing reflective practice, classroom observations/support, supporting beginning teachers, developing classroom management strategies, leading professional learning programmes in the school, facilitating and supporting professional learning communities.
The CTL will need to demonstrate expertise in a number of the following areas.

• Creating opportunities to share current educational research, best practice and current issues and initiatives in education with colleagues
• Being a highly skilled observer and providing timely and sufficient feed-back and feed-forward to colleagues

Time allocation is 0.6 full-time equivalent (FTE) of a teaching position for the CTL role with 0.4 full-time equivalent (FTE) for teaching and preparation as the balance.
The Primary School CTL and High School CTL plan collaboratively on a weekly basis
Role Expectations
The primary focus of the CTL role is to work with staff, generally, individually, on improving teaching instruction and pedagogy. It is acknowledged that there will be a need to attend various meetings with teams / senior leaders, but these should be minimized as much as possible. Attendance to these meetings should have an intentional focus on CTL work.
· Not required to attend Upper Primary Camps.
· Attend admissions events including Saturday events.
· Not required to attend chapels or look after a small group.
· Lead one assembly per grade per semester.
· No afterschool Extra-Curricular Activities required.
· Assist with one Primary School event.
· Participate in new teacher induction in support of Senior Leadership Team and to present the nature of the CTL role and work with High School CTL.
· Once a fortnight to meet with Primary Senior Leaders to discuss the work for CTL. CTL generates the agenda and leads discussions on pertinent matters.
· CTL to cover one hour class per grade team lead per week to allow the team lead to visit his/ her team members. This is a requirement for team leaders to give one hour to teaching time to the CTL and for them to visit classes within their grade.
· Primary Principal to convey clearly to team leaders that the CTL does not require permission to work with staff members, however, she will inform them as a matter of courtesy.
· Substitution of class and/ or duties when needed.
· Each PTI the morning focused on supporting new staff and the afternoon to spend time on planning.
· Assist in the planning of Primary School Professional Development alongside Primary School Senior Leadership Team.
· Half year report to Registered Management Committee (RMC) Education and School Advancement Subcom.
· Attend Back to School night in support of new teachers, and all regular School events (i.e., Carnival) that teachers attend.
Effective Date of Appointment
The starting date for this appointment is mid-August 2026. Initial contract is normally 2 years in duration. Renewable 2-year contracts are offered subject to mutual agreement.
