Work somewhere truly different
Imagine supporting teaching where the sea is visible from your classroom and creativity is part of the culture — not just the curriculum.
Atlantic Academy Portland is an all-through school set on the stunning Jurassic Coast. We are proud of the progress we have made, the strong relationships we’ve built with our community, and the calm, disruption-free learning environment we offer every day.
Are you practical, proactive, and passionate about supporting hands-on learning?
We are looking for an enthusiastic Technician to join our team and play a key role in bringing lessons to life. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic school environment where no two days are the same, and where your work directly supports student success.
The opportunity
As a Technician, you’ll be at the heart of the action — making sure lessons run smoothly, resources are ready, and students can fully engage in practical learning.
From preparing equipment to supporting in lessons, you’ll help create an environment where students can explore, experiment, and develop confidence in their skills.
What you’ll be doing
Preparing materials and equipment so every lesson is ready to go
Setting up engaging learning spaces and clearing them efficiently
Maintaining equipment and ensuring everything is safe and ready to use
Supporting teachers and students during practical activities
Helping to create a safe, organised, and inspiring environment
Providing administrative support where needed
Supervising students during practical sessions when appropriate
What you’ll bring
We are looking for someone who is:
Enjoys practical, hands-on work and problem-solving
Is organised, adaptable, and takes pride in their work
Has experience in a technical or practical setting (or is eager to learn)
Is confident working both independently and as part of a team
Understands (or is willing to learn) health and safety procedures
Is excited by the opportunity to support young people in their learning
Why join Atlantic Academy?
We know recruitment is competitive — so we focus on making this a place where teachers genuinely want to stay and grow.
You will benefit from:
✔️ Disruption-free learning supported by visible SLT
✔️ High expectations and excellent student behaviour
✔️ A collaborative, fully qualified team
✔️ Fortnightly research-led CPD (including cognitive science and raising achievement)
✔️ Visualisers and iPads in every classroom
✔️ Free on-site fitness suite
✔️ Career development across the Aspirations Academies Trust
✔️ On-site parking and pension scheme
At Atlantic, staff wellbeing, professional growth and ambitious teaching go hand in hand.

“Atlantic Academy sits proudly on the southernmost point of Portland… pupils show respect for each other. The school is a calm and orderly place, where pupils can learn without disruption.”
We are proud members of the Aspirations Academies Trust, working collaboratively across the South Coast and South West region.
Ready to join the journey?
