Scope of Responsibilities
Every member of the GUIS team plays a crucial role in fostering a safe and developmentally appropriate atmosphere that reflects the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the GUIS program. At GUIS, teachers are key to delivering outstanding lessons and encouraging both academic and personal development in students. In line with the school’s vision and values, educators are responsible for creating a supportive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment that motivates student achievement, intellectual curiosity, and a love for learning.
Primary Responsibilities:
Safeguarding and Wellbeing:
- Guarantee the safety, wellbeing, and positive conduct of all community members.
- Follow GUIS’s safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
In accordance with the teaching standards for Middle School, teachers are expected to:
- Create and execute well-organized, engaging lessons.
- Adapt teaching methods to cater to the diverse strengths and needs of all students.
- Assess, track, and document students' progress, using data-informed instructional strategies to improve teaching and learning.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and stimulating educational environment that promotes the progress of all students.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the school's curriculum and educational strategies.
- Acknowledge the significance of enhancing literacy and oracy throughout all classes.
Whole-School Responsibilities:
- Involve yourself in the formulation, execution, and evaluation of school policies, practices, and procedures that resonate with the school’s vision and values, particularly focusing on students’ Social and Emotional Wellbeing.
- Participate in the wider school community, including extracurricular activities and events.
- Attend up to six marketing events throughout the academic year as required.
- Provide support coverage for colleagues as needed.
Specific Middle School Duties:
- Teachers are expected to maintain an average of 22 contact hours per week, which encompass responsibilities such as classroom instruction, office hours, invigilation, advisory/homeroom duties, intervention classes, enrichment classes, and other educational activities. The Head of School/Division will define specific work parameters, with a sample provided below for reference. This is illustrative only and does not reflect the exact distribution of contact hours for the academic year.
- Teaching load (65 min/lesson): Maximum of 6 blocks over two days.
- Office Hours: 2 hours per week.
- Advisory: Once daily.
- Other educational responsibilities include intervention and enrichment classes.
- Additional duties beyond contact hours include:
- Co-Curricular Activities (CCA): 30 hours per academic year (unpaid).
- Marketing & Admissions days: Up to six unpaid days for marketing events as required.
- Engagement in Parent-Teacher Conferences, Field Trips, and other school-related activities.
Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience, and Attributes:
- An internationally recognized teaching qualification.
- Proficiency in the language of instruction.
- Extensive subject knowledge and expertise in the relevant subject area(s).
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging, well-organized lessons tailored to students’ needs.
- Strong classroom management skills, ensuring a positive, safe, and conducive learning environment.
