2. Job Summary
The Music Teacher (Musical Theatre & Performing Arts) is responsible for delivering high - quality music instruction with a focus on musical theatre, performance, and vocal training to students at the international school. This role involves creating engaging lesson plans, directing school productions, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. The teacher should use a variety of teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students and promote their musical, theatrical, and performance skills, as well as critical thinking and creativity.
3. Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Instruction
Lesson Planning and Delivery:
Design and implement comprehensive lesson plans in accordance with the school's curriculum standards and international educational frameworks (e.g., IB, A - Level, or other relevant performing arts programs).
Deliver engaging and interactive music and performance lessons to students of varying ages and proficiency levels, from middle school to high school.
Incorporate musical theatre elements such as acting, dancing, and singing into lessons to provide a well - rounded performing arts education.
Utilize a variety of teaching strategies, including hands - on activities, group work, and technology - enhanced learning tools, to make musical concepts accessible and enjoyable for students.
Differentiated Instruction:
Differentiate instruction to meet the individual learning needs of students, including those with special educational needs and gifted students.
Provide extra support and challenges as required to ensure all students can progress in their musical and performance skills.
Assessment:
Continuously assess student learning through regular assignments, quizzes, tests, performances, and projects.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to help them improve their performance.
Monitor student progress in music theory, vocal technique, and performance skills and maintain accurate records of grades and attendance.
School Productions
Production Planning and Direction:
Plan, direct, and produce annual school musicals or plays, managing all aspects from auditions to performances.
Select appropriate musicals or plays that align with the school's curriculum and the abilities of the students.
Audition and cast students, providing constructive feedback and guidance throughout the casting process.
Rehearsal Management:
Conduct regular rehearsals, teaching students vocal techniques, acting skills, and stage movement.
Collaborate with the drama, dance, and technical theatre departments to create cohesive and professional productions.
Ensure that students are well - prepared for performances, including coordinating costumes, props, and set design.
Student Development:
Provide one - on - one vocal coaching to help students improve their pitch, tone, breath control, and performance confidence.
Encourage students to develop their own artistic interpretations and creativity in their performances.
Support students in preparing for college and conservatory auditions (if applicable) and provide guidance on their artistic development.
Classroom Management
Positive Learning Environment:
Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement in music and performance activities.
Establish clear rules and expectations for student behavior during lessons and rehearsals and enforce them consistently.
Conflict Resolution:
Manage classroom activities effectively, ensuring smooth transitions and maximizing instructional time.
Handle student conflicts and disciplinary issues related to music and performance activities in a professional and appropriate manner, escalating to the appropriate authority when necessary.
4. Qualifications
Educational Requirements
A MA degree in Music Education, Musical Theatre, Performing Arts, or a related field. A PHD degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Relevant Teaching Certification
Relevant teaching certification, such as a teaching license recognized in the host country or an international teaching qualification (e.g., IB Educator Certificate, Cambridge International Teacher Certificate).
Experience
At least 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in an international school setting.
Experience in teaching musical theatre and vocal performance to students of different ages and proficiency levels.
Experience in directing school productions, including musicals and plays.
