Reports to: Head of Individuals & Societies

Location: Westlink International School, Hanoi

Position Type: Full-time

Position Overview

Westlink International School Hanoi is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and student-centred IB Individuals & Societies (I&S) Teacher to join our Secondary team. As a full International Baccalaureate continuum school authorised through the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and currently a candidate school for the Diploma Programme (DP), we are looking for a teacher who can contribute across the secondary humanities pathway.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching within the IB framework, primarily in the MYP and, as our Diploma Programme develops, in the DP. The teacher will foster conceptual understanding, inquiry, and critical thinking while creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment that supports all learners to succeed.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Curriculum Planning and Deliver

·       Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and challenging Individuals & Societies lessons aligned with IB MYP and DP frameworks.

·       Teach across the secondary continuum, including MYP and future DP courses as required (e.g., Individuals & Societies subjects such as Geography, History, Economics, or related humanities disciplines).

·       Design inquiry-based, concept-driven learning experiences that connect social sciences and humanities to real-world contexts and global issues.

·       Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and language profiles of learners.

·       Embed Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and promote global contexts within lessons..

 

 

Assessment and Feedback

·       Develop and implement formative and summative assessments aligned with IB criteria and standards.

·       Use assessment data to inform planning and support student progress.

·       Provide timely, specific, and constructive feedback to promote reflection and growth.

·       Maintain accurate records of achievement and contribute to reporting processes.

Classroom Culture and Student Wellbeing

·       Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes student voice, agency, and engagement.

·       Establish clear expectations for behaviour and learning.

·       Support student wellbeing and uphold safeguarding practices at all times.

Collaboration and Professional Practice

·       Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary units and share best practice across the department and school.

·       Contribute to the ongoing development of the Individuals & Societies curriculum and the school’s DP candidacy.

·       Engage in reflective practice and continuous professional learning, including IB training.

·       Participate actively in department, team, and whole-school initiatives.

Communication and Community Engagement

·       Maintain open and effective communication with students, families, and colleagues.

·       Contribute positively to the wider life of the school through events, activities, and extracurricular programmes.

·       Foster strong partnerships within the school community.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

·       Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Geography, History, or a related field

·       Recognised teaching qualification/certification

·       Experience teaching secondary Individuals & Societies or humanities subjects

·       Strong understanding of IB philosophy and inquiry-based pedagogy

·       Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

·       Commitment to inclusive, student-centred practice

Desirable

·       Experience teaching within the IB MYP and/or DP

·       Experience teaching Diploma-level subjects such as History, Geography, Economics, Global Politics, or Environmental Systems and Societies

·       Previous international school experience

·       Master’s degree in Education or a related field

·       Effective integration of technology to enhance learning

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
