Job Purpose
At Dubai British School Jumeirah Park, our teachers play a vital role in shaping curious, confident learners. To achieve this, teachers deliver dynamic and challenging Graphics and Photography lessons that spark genuine interest and ignite students’ curiosity that encourage experimentation, bold ideas, and visual storytelling. Through practical studio work, digital design tools, and exposure to contemporary creative practice, students learn to observe the world more deeply and communicate meaning through imagery. Lessons are crafted to stretch imagination and technical skill in equal measure, helping every learner build confidence, think critically about visual culture, and develop their own creative voice.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Curriculum Deliverance

  • Teach Graphics and Photography across Key Stages, specialising in GCSE and A-Level.

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that challenge and support all learners, incorporating real‑world application and inquiry‑based approaches.

  • Develop and maintain schemes of work and lesson plans aligned with departmental and whole‑school priorities.

  • Ensure lessons reflect best practice in pedagogy, including effective differentiation and strategies to support G&T, EAL and SEND learners.

  1. Data-Informed Student Progress and Attainment

  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform teaching. 

  • Record and analyse assessment data to identify trends and implement interventions where needed.

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and communicate progress effectively to parents

     3. Classroom Practice and Standards 

  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes high expectations and respect. 

  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and engagement through clear routines and positive relationships.

  • Act as a role model for outstanding teaching and uphold a culture of excellence in learning.

  4. Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Participate actively in departmental meetings and contribute to shared planning, resource development, and collaborative approaches to teaching Graphics and Photography.

  • Engage in professional learning opportunities to stay current with curriculum developments and best practice in Graphics and Photography education, including connecting with international subject specific networks which fosters collaboration and exchange among Graphics and Photography teachers worldwide.

  • Where relevant, draw on regional professional bodies such as the BSME Networks to support understanding of local practice and engage with wider professional discourse across the Middle East.

  • Support whole school initiatives and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, modelling reflective practice and a commitment to professional growth

5. Examination and NEA Requirements

  • Prepare students thoroughly for internal and external assessments, including GCSE and A-Level Graphics and Photography examinations.

  • Implement NEA (Non‑Exam Assessment) requirements accurately and in full accordance with exam board specifications, ensuring students understand expectations and assessment criteria.

  • Ensure assessment practices meet the highest standards, with accurate, transparent tracking of student progress and timely feedback that supports academic improvement.

  6. Standards

  • Keep updated with curriculum advancements and best practices, particularly within international schools through organisations like BSME and KHDA-inspected schools.

  • Ensure that students receive the best possible preparation for internal and external assessments.

Person Specification


Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Graphics or Photography (or a closely related field) and a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, PGDE, QTS).

Experience: Minimum of two years teaching Graphics and Photography, ideally within an international or British curriculum school.

Competencies:

  • Experience with international curricula (e.g. IGCSE, GCSE, A‑Level) and familiarity with inspection and accreditation bodies such as Ofsted, KHDA and BSO.

  • Strong subject knowledge across core areas of Graphics and Photography, with the ability to deliver theoretical and research‑based content effectively and confidently.
