About This Role
The Delores D. Echum Composite School is in search of a committed educator to become part of our team for the 2025-2026 school year. Located in Northern Ontario's James Bay region, our First Nations institution caters to over 130 students in Grades 7-12. The nearby Cree community is home to more than 3,000 residents and is accessible via winter road and river boat. QUALIFICATIONS
- Current registration and good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
- Must have Special Education, Specialist Parts 1 & 2
- At least a Bachelor of Education Degree
REQUIREMENTS/ABILITIES
- Include a cover letter in your application submission
- Provide copies of all credentials if not registered with OCT
- Submit a current Police Information Check accompanied by a vulnerable sector check or proof of application
- Include two recent professional references and one personal character reference with consent to contact
- Possess First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to acquire it within a reasonable timeframe
- Exhibit strong communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, staff, and consultants
- Work collaboratively as part of a professional team and be receptive to the school’s educational philosophy
- Modify curriculum to meet diverse learning styles and abilities
- Display flexibility regarding teaching responsibilities
- Be ready to reside in a remote community and engage as an active community member
- Demonstrate understanding and respect for the traditions and aspirations of First Nations peoples and possess experience in a multicultural setting
Start Date: August 21, 2025
Salary: Up to $120,140 per year, depending on OSSTF/QECO rating
Duration: Permanent position with a probationary period of 1 or 2 years based on experience
