Reports to: Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)
Contract Type: Full-time
Start Date: August 2026

Role Overview

Bellver College is seeking a compassionate, proactive, and reflective Special Educational Needs (SEN) Assistant to support the implementation of inclusive practices and individualized student support across the school.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing Student Support Team and to contribute meaningfully to the development of an inclusive SEN program being built from the ground up. Working under the guidance of the SENCO, the SEN Assistant will provide direct student support, assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or equivalent learning plans, and collaborate closely with teachers to ensure students with diverse learning profiles are supported to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

The SEN Assistant plays a vital, hands-on role in translating inclusive values into daily classroom practice and supporting a culture of belonging across Bellver College.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Inclusion

  • Provide in-class and small-group support for students with identified learning needs, as directed by the SENCO.

  • Support students in developing academic, organizational, social, emotional, and self-regulation skills.

  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and strategies outlined in IEPs, ILPs, or support plans.

  • Foster student independence, confidence, and self-advocacy rather than reliance on adult support.

Classroom & Learning Support

  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction and inclusive learning environments.

  • Assist in adapting materials, tasks, and assessments to meet diverse learner needs.

  • Support the use of assistive technology and inclusive learning tools as appropriate.

  • Observe and document student progress, engagement, and areas of need, sharing insights with the SENCO and teaching staff.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the SENCO as part of a coordinated Student Support Team.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with teachers, specialists, and support staff.

  • Support positive, respectful communication with students and families when appropriate, under the direction of the SENCO.

  • Contribute to a collaborative, solutions-focused team culture grounded in shared responsibility for student success.

Program Support & Development

  • Assist with the organization and preparation of resources, documentation, and learning materials for SEN provision.

  • Support data collection, progress monitoring, and record keeping in line with SEN systems and processes.

  • Contribute ideas, reflections, and observations to help inform the ongoing development of Bellver College’s inclusion program.

Safeguarding & Professional Practice

  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in relation to student information.

  • Engage in professional learning related to inclusion, neurodiversity, and student support.

  • Demonstrate reflective practice and openness to feedback and growth.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Experience working with children or young people with additional learning needs (in a school or similar setting).

  • Strong understanding of inclusive values and a commitment to supporting diverse learners.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification or training in special education, inclusive education, or child development.

  • Experience in an international, bilingual, or culturally diverse school setting.

  • Familiarity with learning differences such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or related profiles.

Skills & Attributes

  • Warm, patient, and student-centered approach.

  • Highly collaborative and able to work under the guidance of the SENCO.

  • Organized, adaptable, and responsive to changing student needs.

  • Strong observation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to equity, belonging, and strengths-based practice.

What Bellver College Offers

  • An opportunity to be part of a newly developing, values-driven inclusion program.

  • Supportive leadership and a collaborative Student Support Team.

  • Ongoing professional learning and coaching under the guidance of the SENCO and a global inclusion consultant.

  • A welcoming, inclusive international school community in Mallorca.
